I know the specs sound a little over the top, and even Kotaku isn't confident on the source...

but who here ISNT just a little bit excited over the prospect of Nintendo coming back around for a second go, using all of their power to smite the competition with their old school, mighty power?

I am.

I dunno I mean, I know it's only a few years after the WiiU and that would seem a little bit crazy, but if they brought their architecture up to date (x86) and boosted their online platform just a little, with some serious hardware I think they could be a serious part of serious gaming again.

Thoughts?

If they do come out with a new console I will be happy. Get rid of friend codes and just go by nintendo network id's like with the miivirse and that will be like their XBL. Give me a controller that is more

solid than Carl and Smokey watching old school wrestling and we will be good. If they are going to be making this a console/ handheld combo then they better give the handheld the Tegra K1 and the

console better be X10 better than the Xbox one and PS4 if they want sales. Though, this has me worried. IF the rumors are true and Nintendo will be releasing a new console early as 2015 as some

sources are reporting then what will happen to the games Nintendo is already working on? Will Smash bros get scrapped for the Wii U and be put on the new system? From looking at things that have

surfaced the new console wouldn't be able to play any of the old Nintendo games and you would probably have to buy Wii/ Wii U games on the virtual console like they have with the older systems. This

could be Nintendos last chance in the console market. We already know they own the handheld market so if the console market dies for them they would just focus on their handhelds.

@Prof - yeah it likely is. My point was that the thought alone gets me hard. You not agree?

@Baby Kangaroo - it could well be their last attempt, as you said. I dunno about no tegra, you have to understand that even with all the crazy shit this rumour is stating, there needs to be moderation to assure consumer affordability.

Realistically I'd like Nintendo to have a stab at the serious gaming market for consoles (it seems they've defined what "serious" is for the handheld market themselves).

I don't want to get excited. Their last two consoles were the polar opposite of what I want, so I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Nintendo needs:
    -A well-rounded online tracking system for achievements/trophies
-Ditch the kiddy mannequin Miis, they look horrible and I'd be embarrassed to have one. Profile pictures are sufficient, but a 3D avatar has potential assuming they can make it look like a human being.
    -A normal fucking controller
-A system that can handle modern graphical standards at 1080p
-A system that does NOT require movement controls for ANY game, but supports it
    -Ditch the "ii" names entirely
-Launch the new system with a serious title. Not fucking Mario or LoZ, not some competitively-friendly game, but a HUGE, mature game. Something that will entice everyone above 13, and can't be completed in just a day of playing.

I feel like Nintendo is at a point where they're going to have to prove themselves if they want business outside of the 3DS.

Better times. I fucking loved the Gamecube.

Yeah I think prof has it spot on. Reading his post got me even more excited.

What was Ninty's last new ip?

Asking Nintendo to create a mature blockbuster game is like asking the guy who draws Garfield to paint the next Mona Lisa.

I feel like Nintendo is at a point where they're going to have to prove themselves if they want business outside of the 3DS.

- Seriously. They're still pretty bad with online. I can't see it doing anything but helping Miiverse if they added a trophy/achievement showcase to it.
- I disagree, the Miis are pretty cool.
- I've heard good things about the Wii U Pro controller. Also, while a lot of people do prefer having a 'normal' controller, I think leaving the normal controller as an option is the one thing leaving Nintendo to stand out. I like how some of the third party games feel more like arcade games, as opposed to just normal games. It makes for a more interesting experience, imo
- The Wii U, surprisingly enough, pushed a fair amount of its recent games (read: Like 5, HA) at 1080p and 60fps, while a lot of 'current gen' games still struggle to maintain a decent framerate at 720. It's just food for thought really. The Wii U doesn't have the greatest graphics, but it seems like you have to pick when it comes to this race.
- Again with controls, same answer as last time
- SERIOUSLY. Did they NOT see market confusion coming with this? Between the 3DS and the Wii U, it's like they got lazy and stupid up there. You can ride the coattails of something's success by naming it nearly the same thing.

If Nintendo were to legit try their hand at most of these, I'd feel they would actually be worse off. The thing that's always pushed them forward is their constant desire to be different (for better, worse, and neutral results). If they can just find something else that works, without taking about 120 steps back, and actually taking the right queues from other companies, I think Nintendo can pick themselves up again.

As for new IPs: I know Miyamoto's working on something new (or allegedly has been for like five years), but we've seen nothing. Though I really don't think they'd benefit from constantly throwing out new content. As much as I've said I hate when they slap an existing IP onto a new gameplay idea, that very same thing kept me occupied and entertained for the past few days: Chibi Robo: Photo Finder. Its main reel is finding common real-world things, and taking pictures of them to put em in the game. It also has Chibi helping people out as well, so there's the classic cleaning and junk you'd expect. The fact that it's not just vanilla gameplay, but that it's something different (not necessarily NEW, but still interesting) is really what makes me get sucked into this title.

But those are just my two cents on the matter. As for Nintendo Fusion, it's undoubtedly fake... HOWEVER, we did hear that Ninty was dumping more money into their R&D department, which is kind of interesting considering the timing. I guess we'll just see.

Wonderful 101; Platinum made it, but Nintendo owns the rights to it. Before that there's all the eShop IPs like Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo, etc, then I think there's Steel Diver. There's probably more that I can't think of right now.
A fair amount of new IPs get made, but they're usually one-off things that go un-noticed.

Microsoft releases Xbox in 2001.
Microsoft releases Xbox 360 in 2005.

People claim Microsoft is ruining gaming by not having at least 7 years between consoles. How fucking dare they!

Nintendo does the same thing with Wii and Wii U.

S'cool, we lurve them, they're going to save gaming.

Rumor that Nintendo would cut and run after 2 years of the Wii U.

BONERS ERRYWHERE.

I don't understand people.
