Name: Joshua Valencia

Age: 21

How old were you when you got into gaming, and which system did it?
When I was 4/5 years old and it would have to be the SNES.

If different from above, what was the first system you owned?
The brick Gameboy. My brother was a sucker for color and backlights so he had the Game Gear. Me, I loved that brick. Batteries lasted for days and it had Pokemon!

What systems do you currently own?
Current gen systems I have them all: 360, PS3, Wii aPC
Older consoles include: NES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, DS Phat, DS Lite, PSP-2000, and the mother fucking Neo Geo Pocket Color. It's my baby <3

What is your favorite system, be it current or retro?
A toss up between SNES and PS2. They both had a boat load of games that didn't just appeal to one demographic. Both had awesome 1st and 3rd party offerings that were unique to the console. Also, both had FIGHTIN GAEMS

A rough estimate of how many games you own?
Wow, I would say at my peak I would have owned about 1,000 or so games. Right now, I think I have about 500 or so games.

What game are you currently playing?
Jumping around too damn much, but currently: Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online, Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Final Fantasy IV Collection, Fallout New Vegas, Team Fortress 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Dead Nation, Gears of War 3, Too much crap.

What is your favourite genre, and why?
Fighting games/Platform/Adventure games. Something about the competitiveness draws me in. Sure there are some crappy people (just like in any game community) but for the most part it is all good fun. I actually met some of my best friends through arcades which is dope. As for platform and adventure games, just something about them that I love. Maybe it is the fantasy aspect of it or just the journey.

What is your favourite game series, and why?
I would say Street Fighter but Street Fighter 4 isn't on that list. I like Street Fighter because of how technical the games are and how players can't seem to reach a plateau. There is always something new to learn and different ways to approach the game. Especially with older titles like SF2: Super Turbo and Third Strike.

What is your all-time favorite game, and why?
Super Mario World. I played the shit out of on SNES and played the shit out of it again on the GBA. Proud to say that I completed the game on both consoles 100%. I even went through the GBA extras.

Who is your favourite developer, and why?
I could be a trendy hipster and say Valve or be a lame-o and say Capcom, but it would probably be Atlus. Their business model has always been on niche games and though not everyone will get on board, they do listen to their fan base and that is something I respect.

Give us your most under-rated/under-valued game.
Lunar: Silver Star Story. Kinda strange that a game that has been released so many damn times just doesn't get any love. (Released on Sega CD, PS1, DS and PSP). Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete for the PS1 is probably the most "complete" copy.

Any platform exclusive you'd like to see make the leap to multiplatform?
I personally don't care since I happen to own every current gen console.

How about your favorite handheld game?
Jump Ultimate Stars on the DS. Pretty much the Smash Bros for a handheld. Currently its FF4: Complete Collection.

Any old series you'd like to see revived on current gen platforms?
A new Lunar game would be great. I can see it being a cel shaded RPG.

Tell us about your most memorable gaming moment, something you're going to tell your grandkids.
I think it would have to be the time where I was able to beat a local tournament player known as Infrit in Marvel vs Capcom 3. The game was out for a few weeks but people were already discovering the various mechanics of the game. I played at Arcade Infinity before it had closed down (RIP) and this guy had actually just beat Cl0ckwork, known old school MvC2 player that was wrecking people pretty bad. So this dude Infrit beats him and he pretty much is dominating the entire time, so much so that no one wanted to play anymore even though people had their token up. So being the ghetto person that I am, I just started to take peoples tokens and play the game since no one else was. After about 3 games, I was able to beat him triumphantly with my Deadpool, Sentinel, Dr. Doom team against his Zero, Sentinel, Wesker team. There was a crowd around me and everyone cheered and started to clap. Once I beat him, everyone came out of who knows where and started play. Not even winning the local Gamestop tournament for SF4 made me this satisfied with an outcome.

Deep thoughts now:
Given the many news reports of people committing horrific acts against other people and then blaming videogames, do you feel that videogames are - in any way, shape or form - responsible for these atrocities, or are there other issues at play?
Only thing I will say is that people will try to point the finger on anyone and anything. It has happened before with movies, music and even literature. I say do the most logical thing: carefully analyze why someone did the things they did. If someone is going to go and commit a mass murder then there is clearly something wrong with that person.

Have you ever found yourself looking at life or the world around you in a different light after playing a videogame, or has a videogame had any influence on how you live your life?
LOL no. I don't get bent out of shape over the story of a video game and try to justify actions in real life. I think that's kinda silly.

And finally, tell us a strange but true fact about yourself.
Not really about me, more about my background. A lot of the people on my fathers side are veteran gangsters. There is a reason why I never see them. If you seen the American Me movie or some other film depicting Mexican Mafia, then you will get the idea on the kind of people I am talking about.
