Tips for non-story stuff
* Buy your equipment off of the market boards and NOT the vendors. Always. Also, as soon as you can get one, get a Retainer.

* Libra Eorzea is the official FFXIV:ARR app for iPhone, and it has pretty much everything ever in there. Curse my Android devices...

* We have access to a Teamspeak 3 voice chat server thanks to the lovely Nick. Not gonna go posting the IP and the password where everyone can see it, but if anyone wants access so we can get some chat on, either myself or inertSpark should be able to nab the info and PM it you.

* A guide to grinding FATEs

* When you get the chance to choose a second class, you will get an Armoury Bonus. This is a % bonus on all EXP earned from kills, collecting, crafting, etc (but not missions) and is based on the difference between your highest class and your current one. EG: You have Gladiator at level 30, you will get, say 25% bonus EXP when you start a new class. If your Gladiator was level 40, your bonus would be, say, 35%. This helps grinding later easier, but also makes sticking with one class worthwhile in the long run.

* Be in a party as often as possible. Provided your class levels aren't too far apart, you will get EXP from your own kills AND theirs, and vice versa. In mob-related FATEs, this is often the best way to maximise your EXP gain.

* Playing on console and targetting pissing you off? Peep these settings right here. Clicking L3 changes the text above the HP bar between "Friends" and "Enemies". Selecting a specific one and then hitting left or right on the D-pad will ONLY tab through each available target of that type. Up and down are still only reserved for people in your party.

* Stay away from this man.

Few more things I found out...

* Healing can be very unproductive and unrewarding during FATEs, especially during ones where multiple mobs spawn. Whoever gets the first hit on an enemy will always get the full EXP upon death of the creature, so a Conjurer can abuse this by aiming at newly-spawned mobs and casting Aero at them, dishing the first hit. If there are tanks in the area, they will likely provoke (attract) the mobs and kill them, rewarding you with the EXP. At the end of the FATE you'll be rewarded with a hefty EXP gain!

* When doing a dungeon instance as a healer, when it's time for the boss fight, you normally lock on the tank and ensure he's healed at all times. If you're playing on PS3, you'll likely be holding a trigger (L2 or R2) and rattling cure off using a face button. If, while holding a trigger, you hit L1, you will temporarily aim at the boss, giving you the opportunity to fire off an attack spell. After casting, you will automatically lock back on the tank, and can continue healing! If you do this every two or three casts, you can support your tank AND help destroy the boss!

* Form a party with some other folk, and then all go and sign up for the same Guildleves. When one person activates theirs, it activates for all in the party. This way, you can deliberately get guildleves and set the difficulty ABOVE your current level to maximise your gains and have enough backup from the others to ensure you survive it. Once the guildleve is completed, it will complete for everyone in the party. Then, just go cash them in and reap the rewards!

I do too, unless it involves fighting multiple enemies at once.

Regardless, I still choose 4. Never failed one yet.

You should get exp for them based on the class who picks the quest up.

Anyway, leves aren't worth your time.. Skip them and more on.

* Don't try to cheat the system by taking a high-level quest and handing it on a low-level class - all quests are level-locked, and it remembers which class you accepted the quest on. If you do drop down to a lower level class in an attempt to get all the EXP for them, you'll get a message in the chatbox saying you received EXP for the class that accepted it.

* Want to make some massive money? You'll beed to have a retainer and to be a miner, and go mine lightning and wind shards right outside Ul'dah (or the shards outside whichever city you start in). Get about 200, which will take an hour or so, then using your retainer, sell them in bundles of 25 for a few gil less than the lowest on the market. EG: last night the market was full of shards selling in bundles of 200 for 43gil a shard, so I sold bundles of 25 for 40gil a shard. Within seconds of them hitting the market, I'd made 7,000gil. Literally seconds. THIS ISN'T THE ANSWER TO THE AILING ECONOMY - but there are definitely people buying gil from online sources (a sweep of non-official forums show people discussing the best places to buy gil from) so as long as people are happy to do this, there will be gil to be had. But 7k from an hours work? Fine by me...

Found something out today which is awesome.

You know that afk log out timer they introduced last week? Well you can beat it. All you have to do is initiate a conversation with an npc, then stay in the conversation while you go afk. I managed to stay logged in for 8 fucking hours this way, purely by accident as I left my pc on by mistake. Oops.

In other nonsensical and unnecessary news - I was removing items from retainer to do a shitload of crafting when I discover a Chigoe larve in my inventory. No idea how I got it.
