Again. Green Arrow = straight Batman ripoff. At least Hawkeye is an original character.

Please give me three reasons why Green Arrow is a Batman "ripoff" and why?

And then give me the originalities of HawkEye...

Did you read that link? Green Arrow was conceived as a billionaire playboy, he designs his own gadgets based on an archery motif, and he has a sidekick. How is that NOT a Batman ripoff?

Here's Hawkeye's origin story.

Look, dude, you can link to Wikipedia all you want but it doesn't mean he's a rip-off.

Billionaire playboy? Is Tony Stark also a "Rip-off"? He also designs his own gadgets. He must be a real rip off.

Batman is a detective, martial artist. Green Arrow isn't either of those. And there's no way I'm settling for that "sidekick" bullshit, as that's only recent, and they're not the only one with side-kicks.

Dude he's a Robin-Hood character, he has a fucking bow with arrows, how many other characters have that?
He's obviously inspired by Batman but so was
Nite Owl from Watchmen (in fact he was Originally intended to BE Batman or Blue Beetle), Batman is an old character and therefore a fuckload of superheroes take a lot from him.

Dude, seriously, with respect, I'd probably try reading a series of comic characters before you try to make them out to be a rip-off, when they're clearly not. A quick Wikipedia read doesn't cut it.

Tony Stark designs his own equipment, but he doesn't really do gadgets so much as he does full-on power suits. He also doesn't have a car or plane designed after his motif (like Green Arrow does), he doesn't use a signal to summon him (like Green Arrow does), and Iron Man doesn't have a clown-looking arch nemesis (like Green Arrow does). But guess who has all those things, too? The sidekick is NOT a recent thing with Green Arrow, either. Speedy debuted in Action Comics with Green Arrow back in '41.

Yeah, Batman's old, but there's no way you can deny the obvious. I may not have read as many comics as you, Ax, but I HAVE read comics before, including Green Arrow comics, not to mention that the people that make these Wiki pages are pretty thorough when it comes to comic book characters. I've done my due diligence here.

Well it certainly sounds like you're read less than more, neither myself or my comic-reading friends agree with this "rip-off" business.

Green Arrow has those qualities you mentioned that are similar to Batman, but loads of DC characters have their own vehicles, and signals. And what about the flash, he has a clown-esque enemy (so does Spawn). Loads of people share similar qualities to Batman as a character, but as any real reader knows, it's not about the gadgets, the cars and the style of the hero that makes them unique, it's the style of writing. And Bruce is so similar to Tony it's untrue. But the writing styles of Batman and Green Arrow are completely different, and a true reader can spot this. Green Arrow is way more political than Batman. And he's a plain vigilante, not a detective. The characters are way, way apart man.

I don't mean to be a twat with "true reader" comments but it's the reason I could tell you weren't that heavy into the comics, or have had limited (very limited) access to the stories.

I suggest you go pick some up, dude. Go to a comic shop, 50p bargain bins for silver-age stuff, and you're laughing. Even bronze age (the Kev Smith issue 1 is fun). I think you'll really enjoy the contrast dude.

I'm not saying Green Arrow is a total carbon copy. I'm aware of the political angle, and that he doesn't have Batman's detective skills (though he does have skills in martial arts and swordsmanship). Consider, though. Bullseye is not just an enemy to Green Arrow. Bullseye is to Green Arrow what Joker is to Batman. They're archenemies, plain and simple. Bullseye even looks like Joker. Also, Green Arrow has the Arrowcar, the Arrowplane, the Arrow-signal, and the freaking Arrowcave. Tony Stark doesn't have this shit. Yeah, Superman has the Fortress of Solitude, but he doesn't have his own signal in the sky. Wonder Woman has her invisible jet, but she doesn't have a Wondercave. No, vehicles and a lair with a motif aren't limited to Batman and Green Arrow, but what other superheroes have all these things in common like Batman and Green Arrow?

I don't really give a shit about who's a ripoff of whom, I'm just popping in to say that "Arrowplane" is a great pun.

This is all bullshit, anyway. Yeoman could mop the floor with Green Arrow AND Hawkeye.
