What's the obsession with these new ridiculously complicated games where you just wander around for hours on end surrounded by other people (with no lives) wandering around for hours on end, with no real end in sight and no point! All these new games do is encourage the uber geek to feel awesome because he has over 9000 points because he is glued to the comp screen for 20 hours per day.

Why can't we just go back to the old fun games where you could play for 20 min running from the left of the screen to the right of the screen and collect a few coins on the way. It was simple, it was fun, it did not require half your life and you could still squeeze in a decent game while having time to pop to the pub with (real life) mates and have sex that was not paid for, and did not involve the harm of animals or general household objects.

Anyone else think these new games are just too much?

They still have those games in bountiful numbers.

Super Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat, Little Big Planet, many PSN titles, loads of XBLA titles, they're all over the place, if you know where to look for them.

Also, I clicked your sig and raged. Well played, Megatron...

'Twas a bit misleading, this is not my first time spamming.......

And fair point, although the original Sonic is still my fave, it does not however solve the impending problem of the rise of the uber geek the newfangled contraptions are encouraging.....

There were always people who would never get laid, MMOs just give them something to do.

Nothing wrong with paying for sex.... as long as you are paying the person you are having sex with... not some guy then doing the girl he said was yours only to get arrested and sent to a Thai jail because you thought she was 'kinky' screaming but it was really 'no-no-police screaming'... then you cant talk to the police and when Amnesty International arrives the dudes long gone with your cash any way and they all look a like so you can't tell... it may have all been okay if you hadnt been carrying that statue for a guy that turned out to be full of coke...

Not that any of that ever happened, but just as an example.

I think younger people are just more accustomed to interacting online now. I know personally I like the human element but I see in my younger brother and sister's generation (mid to late 90's) that they are more comfortable with online communication. My brother and his friends will load up some MW2 and talk about unrelated things; my sister will BBM incessantly with her friend where she could just call. It's why I think MMO's work to a degree; they give all out virtual worlds to live in. It also reinforces the whole "gamification" theory that has take off: people want constant positive feedback, that they are grtting something out of their time. COD and its level system is an example. The idea of repeat playing and developing a palpable skill for a game is an idea that is dying out. When it comes back, like.in Demon Souls, it's heralded.

The only thing worthwhile in MMO's is having a female avatar, so all the nerds give you tons of in game money and items so you don't have to grind for billions of years.

You then trade that to your real account so you can go around wrecking people's shit in PVP.

Then you fuck their mothers.
