The general feel I get from this thread is that edgy humour is fine, provided it doesn't cross boundaries. JZ's post crossed it, and it was removed. I've done it in the past, crossed the line and then later removed it after a complaint. Done it several times in fact, mainly on the posts that YOU YOURSELF complained about, Fanboy.

But many(most, perhaps even) people would agree that JZ's post was showing no malice or discrimination against people of a different race. I have never before, in all of my dozen-or-so years of living in the most racist, black-hating, backwards-ass state in America, heard "chocolate" used as an insult, tried to be used as an insult, used in any name-calling that wasn't obviously joking, nor seen anyone get offended by it, and that includes the extremist black people who are still pissed at all white people, because "we" enslaved "them."
(granted, I have never seen people quite that extremist be referred to as chocolate, but I've seen pretty much everything short of that.)

But we all agree we hate the French right?

More seriously, the real issue here is the distinction between negative stereotypes and racism. While perpetuation of a negative stereotype could be perceived as racist once it is in the social consciousness it becomes very hard to separate it from a races identity.

This isn't a problem with positive stereotypes, which is essentially equally racist, because people do not mind the association.

The problem comes with intent when we use these stereotypes, and ignorance while not muting a misused word to the people it hurts, is a defense against racism in a world where political correctness alters what is expectable daily. My dad for example will use any number of 'hate' terms, but does not have a single bone in his body that holds any hatred or intolerance for any of them.

Now on a public board where intent cannot be seen (and this goes back to my early pub point) you have to be careful of who can read/overhear your conversation. Maybe one person does not see the hurt/offense in what is said, but if others do then it should be taken down and no fuss should be made.

Back to the pub, you make a joke and the 7 foot tall muscle bound asian guy next to you stands up taking offense at it. You say, sorry I didn't mean it like that I just thought it was a funny play on a stereotype. Dude says, okay thats cool but I found it offensive please don't do it again, and sits down. You consider yourself damn lucky, you do not start telling the next guy over the same joke.

That is what posting online is because the joke stays up. It is not fleeting, it is permanent unless you or a mod says, actually this may offend, we appreciate that, and take it down to stop it offending someone in the future. I does not mean the person who posted it is racist, it means out of respect for a peoples who could take offense, with out knowing us or the context, we are going to remove these words.

I think you mean 'ethic minorities outweigh white Anglo-Saxons' as I suspect many of the 'minorities' are British born.

I can understand the frustration you feel there, there is no justice in the concept white people in white countries must simply endure racism that is aimed at them. I think on these boards though racism against any race shouldn't be tolerated.

That's not just England, bro, that's everywhere. Racism against white people simply does not exist, according to many(most, perhaps even).

I fucking hear that. I tried to apply to a Mexican restaurant, and the hostess said they needed the manager 'cause only he knew where the application forms were. I waited there for an hour, and the entire time, there were five or six employees sitting in a booth in my line of sight, speaking in Spanish and shooting glances at me. Two or three times, one of them would come up to the host's station, and I'd ask them for some help, and they'd just get all evasive and bullshit me some more. I have never felt more insulted in my life. I realize that it's an ethnic restaurant, but you can't refuse a request for a fucking form.

If this guy ever ran for PM/Prez, I'd vote.
