Indeed. Dante is there because the Kazuma Kaneko (character desinger for most SMT games - the notable exceptions being P3/P4) did art for DMC3, and Capcom and Atlus thought it would be a nice cross over. The Riders, plus some other Fiends like Daisoujou, Hell Biker, Trumpeter, Matador, Dante and ...I might be forgetting one...make uo a set of optional bosses in the game. They are hard as fuck but each are excellent, excellent bosses, and you can fuse them to become your demons later too! (Daisoujou is an Spell TANK! You can make him with Debilitate/Heat Riser/Meditation/Prayer, which gives you an unlimited source of SP while having the best buff/debuff skills in the game)


Plus, I love the intro music to all the boss battles:
