In the realm of literature, though, LotR kicks Star Wars' ass and makes Star Wars kiss it and make it all better. That's right. It makes Star Wars kiss its own ass.

Obviously you can't base this on the new trilogy, it is the original SW trilogy all the way. LoR fun movies, an epic achievement. But they are no Star Wars.

It's simply a matter of timing. If I was a kid growing up now, LOTR might have a chance to unseat Star Wars, but I grew up loving the original trilogy. LOTR was good, but it can't displace more than two decades of affection.
