LOTR for coherence, script quality, and for Ian McKellen fighting what is essentially Satan, but not for comfort (numb arse).

Star Wars for excitement, nostalgia, and for Vader, but not for the fucking prequels. Spaced hit the nail on the head when The Phantom MenArse came out -- a lot of us burned our Star Wars stuff in a tearful funeral pyre scene.

Also re Star Trek: I am a massive fan but it's never been consistent enough to be even considered alongside LOTR and Star Wars. Hurts me to say it, but even those of us who love it must admit that the quality of Trek is definitely much inferior to other franchises.

because the prequels were only made so Lucas could have more money and were never part of the original books. It would be like if in 20 years they decided to make 3 new LOTR movies telling the story of the first battle with Sauron. Sure it might be cool but it was never part of the lore.

Easy for us to exclude the Star Wars prequels, but we're going to have to accept it one day: the prequels are part of the series, whether we like it or not.
