Aye, I think people should have to pass some sort of basic IQ test before they're allowed to be a juror. Some people would say that it's a fairly harsh measure but a juror can change somebody's life forever - even sentence somebody to death - I feel it's important that they're intelligent enough to understand the evidence and make their own decisions. A lot of people are easily led, they'll do what everyone else does... Not a trait you really want in somebody who is deciding the fate of your life.

well, you're supposed to have a jury of your peers. I say if you're a white, 35 year old male with an IQ of 135 than the jury should consist of white 30-40 year old males with IQ's around 135. If you're a 23 yr old black female, you should have a jury of early 20's black females.

I guess that means that anyone who has ever killed anyone, be it in time of war, self defense, accidental, etc deserves the same treatment, right? I mean, they killed somebody, after all.

I get it. So you can't support a war unless you're actively a part of it. You can't be in favor of incarceration unless you're willing to be a prison guard. You can't be in favor of rehabilitating murderers and rapists unless you would actually be willing to be the one rehabilitating them. You can't expect ANYTHING to be done unless you're willing to do it yourself. I'm in favor of having my trash picked up every Tuesday. That doesn't mean I have to want to be a garbage man.

Sometimes jobs need to be done even if nobody else wants to do them.

i think you're missing the point. you can be in favor of having your trash picked up, but what if no one is willing to do it? it doesn't get done than does it. I'm not saying you have to do it. I'm just saying that if there was a need for it, you should be willing to. And yes, to support a war you should be willing to step in if needed.

I agree, jurors need to be screened. Discrimination, hell, if you're too stupid to grasp what's going on, you shouldn't be presiding over a man's fate. And yes, death sentences shouldn't be carried out without absolutely concrete evidence. Capital punishment is pretty heavy stuff after all. As for executing worthless drains on society, my only question is how much does it pay?
