k, so on the whole dude who claims MS circumvented all kinds of testing procedures...
I'm assuming this is the story in question:
http://kotaku.com/5049294/game-tester-f ... 60-defectsSo, some TEMP game tester, is going to be given that kinda of information? Maybe he just doesn't know what he is talking about? I've worked for MS, and there's one thing I can tell you, despite signing a shitstorm of NDAs, Temps are not told anything other than what is absolutely necessary for them to do their job. This man tested games, found bugs, and reported them. He likely had little insight into the actual operation for the fixing of those bugs, or others.
For all he knows these problems were in fact fixed. I have dead rising, and I played the living shit out of it. I never once had any problem. Yes, I know that there is a good chance I just didn't trigger the precise error, but I still maintain, MS does testing, and quality assurance (I know, I've had to do it), and I have an incredibly hard time believing they would release a game to public which they know causes system errors.
Lastlty, RRoD is a hardware failure, so what exactly does this game tester have to do with anything? He didn't even work for the hardware platform team. For all he knew hardware team worked ferociously to remedy the problem, thought they had covered it (maybe in fact did with the particular problem) but unfortunately missed the larger problem with the system.
The fact that it took so long to determine the RR problem, should tell you it wasn't all that easy to diagnose. It's easy for all of us to sit around and criticse, we're not int he situation. No doubt, this was a huge oversight, and yes cheap parts are still a factor, but in the end, I can't say anything bad about MS's quality assurance practices.
