Before ANYONE starts banging on about the quality of games on the 360, please be aware this is a HARDWARE ONLY discussion.

Personally, the RRoD was one of the many reasons I opted to go for a PS3 rather than a 360. Oh sure, there's loads more games and a better online service on the 360, but did I want to risk spending my hard earned spondoolies on a machine that could drop dead as soon as Halo 3 went anywhere near it?

Short answer: no.

Oh sure, I could have plumped for an Elite, which suffers a lesser failure rate, or tried my luck with a Premium.... but should I have HAD to put my faith in a machine that could die, or should I just be able to buy something and know it wouldn't kick the bucket?

For me, the RRoD is a major issue, and regardless of how Microsoft have reacted to it, the fact of the matter is that THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Opinions?

Agreed, it WAS a big issue, and certainly should never have happened. That said, I do commend MS for their tireless efforts to help out all those affected. Even though, we all know they were left with little choice, I still think they have done good by their adopters.

I never got it. But I don't think it is that bad as it was before.

It seems to be fixed now. It was horrible in the pre-HDMI units though.

I'd say so yes. I know lots of people with the HDMI version and afaik noone has had a problem with them. Mine's worked great too.

The thing that really bothers me about it is Microsoft knowingly put untested parts in their console. They did fix it, but by the time the issue happened they had already lost my respect. Also the issue could still happen, it's just far less likely now that they're testing all hardware before putting it in their machines.

I'm not going to say it didn't happen cause frankly I'm not in a position to know that. But, I've seen how things are done inside MS and I just find it hard to believe the accusations that guy made. Has he ever definitely been able to back up his claims?
