Name: Nick Alexander

Age: 21

Location: Concord, NC

How old were you when you got into gaming, and which system did it?
I wish I could say it was when I was five with the NES, but honestly, that was just something to keep me occupied when I'd go over to my mawmaw's house. I don't think I really got into gaming 'til I was in junior high and started playing Spyro and Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 at my grandma's house.

If different from above, what was the first system you owned?
There was an NES in my home, and my dad owned a Game Gear that my brothers and I would steal to play Primal Rage, but the first system that I actually owned was a Gamecube.

What systems do you currently own?
GBA, GBA SP, DS Lite, PS2 (broken, though :( ), Gamecube, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360

What is your favorite system, be it current or retro?
I'd probably have to say the Gamecube, simply because I have so many fond memories of playing its games, either by myself or with my friends.

A rough estimate of how many games you own?
Counting ones that I'm reasonably certain are in these walls but I can no longer locate, between 50-60.

What game are you currently playing?
I'm currently going back through Fallout 3, but I'm also alternating between Assassins Creed: Revelations and Batman: Arkham City for completionist reasons.

What is your favourite genre, and why?
RPGs; I've always been a fan of long games with a compelling story, the same as I am with books, because I've never been blessed with an overabundance of cash and I want something to keep me entertained for as long as possible.

What is your favourite game series, and why?
I'd probably have to go with the Elder Scrolls series. There's just so much not just to the games themselves, but to the lore. I have literally spent hours just reading the books in those games, learning about the natures of the daedric princes or about the psychology of the Khajiit or about the different races outside of Tamriel. It's a very compelling series. The Assassins Creed franchise would be a very close second, though. I've always liked historical fiction, and who the hell doesn't enjoy stabbing people in the eye?

What is your all-time favorite game, and why?
I think it's a split between Civilization II and III. I'm probably the least likely to become a full-on PC gamer as anyone, but the second I saw my uncle playing Civ II, I was hooked, and the fact that your units actually move in Civ III was just mind-boggling to me. I cannot begin to tell you how many hours I've sunk into these two games.

Who is your favourite developer, and why?
Bethesda; say what you will about how buggy their games can be, but there is no denying that their Fallout and Elder Scrolls games are some of the best games in the industry, for a number of reasons.

Give us your most under-rated/under-valued game.
Dynasty Warriors, and I will NOT apologize. Yes, there's been a severe lack of innovation in the series over the years, but it's a great hack 'n' slash game. Why change something that works?

Any platform exclusive you'd like to see make the leap to multiplatform?
Not really

How about your favorite handheld game?
The Golden Sun series, hands down

Any old series you'd like to see revived on current gen platforms?
Now that they're done with Uncharted (I have no idea if they're actually "done", but they've made a trilogy, and that's been their typical MO), I'd like to see Naughty Dog go back and make another Jak & Daxter game, more in the vein of the original than in the sequels. I enjoyed Jak 2 & 3, but I loved the first one most.

Tell us about your most memorable gaming moment, something you're going to tell your grandkids.
Back in high school, my friend put together a 16-man Halo 3 event at his house. Four TVs, four 360s, and sixteen high school/college kids headshotting and sticking and teabagging each other and yelling "DOWN, BOY" (sometimes in-game, too ;) ). Half the time, I wasn't even playing the game because I couldn't focus on the TV, I was laughing so hard.

Deep thoughts now:
Given the many news reports of people committing horrific acts against other people and then blaming videogames, do you feel that videogames are - in any way, shape or form - responsible for these atrocities, or are there other issues at play?

By themselves? Hell no. Games are just like any other form of media - it's a stimulus. Very seldom do you see someone do anything for just one reason, or because he acted on just one thing.

Have you ever found yourself looking at life or the world around you in a different light after playing a videogame, or has a videogame had any influence on how you live your life?
Sure, there have been a number of games that have influenced me or made me think. Perhaps not in a life-changing way, but after I played through the Uncharted games, I've thought "What if...?" about a number of things in history, and the same goes for the Assassins Creed games. In fact, the AC games have made me think about my faith in a different light, like "What if God is actually just some alien but mortal race?" or "What if the Church is just a front for a secret society?" Again, nothing major has changed, but it's always been interesting to speculate.

And finally, tell us a strange but true fact about yourself.
I once did a bellyflop off a zipline into a lake from thirty feet up. That hurt even worse than when I wound up chewing out a piece of my inner lip on impact because I hit the water with my mouth open. I hit the bellyflop perfectly, though. No last minute curl-up, either, 'cause I ain't no bitch.

I also know you're not a big fan of Sterling but you might enjoy this.

Nope. What's done is done. I can't like something that Sterling likes, or be a traitor to my principles.

I didn't even know that existed, actually. I've only played the first one.

I decided to check this again, and I've decided that I only want a new Jak game in the vein of the first one if they fix the goddamn camera. I don't think it ever really bothered me when I played it the first time, but I recently got the PS3 collection, and I ragequit 'cause the stupid camera got me killed too many fucking times.
