I'm gonna start this out with a story:

When I was a child there was one game I wanted: Earthbound. It came out 25 days before my birthday, I told every relative thats all I wanted that year, come my birthday and no Earthbound. Parents and relatives couldn't find the game. They were going out running errands near places that sold games the next few days. Three Funcolands, two Toys R Us and a K-Mart later and no one had a copy of the game. Some even told us that the game was never even shipped to their stores. I did eventually get the game, 8 years later used. Not a penny went towards Nintendo and now I'm forced to feel bad that the game will never be rereleased on the VC nor will its sequel ever be released here because I didn't get it when it came out.

But what part of that says I didn't want the game new? I wanted it when it came out, It came out right before my birthday. I was told stores were never given it to sell. Our whole economy is based off of Supply and Demand, but what happens when companies refuse to give supply to a demanding fanbase?

The fanbase suffers.

A more recent example is Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Capcom refuses to release this game because its predeccesor didn't sell as well as Okamiden and that Ace Attorney Investigations is one of the most pirated games on the DS. But guess what? There are three Best Buys and four Gamestops in my area and they all carry Okamiden, even one of the Wal-Marts has it. Only one Gamestop has ever had a copy of Ace Attorney Investigations from every time I've checked. Best buy never stocked it.

In my belief gamers will be less inclined to pirate if games weren't made in such small prints, making it in turn a fat profit for scalpers who'll charge double even triple for a game because companies were too stupid or stubborn to do another print of a game or even rerelease it years later.

A good example of averting and disposing of this is Atlus, a company whos catalogue instantally screams "Rare game making company". They themselves are not amused with this title and have been doing more prints of their games. Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne being prime examples, with prices going up to $70 for a used copy with just a disk and Atlus seeing zero profit years ago, you can now buy a new copy off of Amazon for $30 and Atlus will see the money and sales data from that. They also just rereleased Radiant Historia because people were complaining that you could only get the game for $80 from a scalper on ebay. The only people complaining about this? Those very same scalpers. And this makes me raise a glass to Atlus and other companies that do decide to rerelease games so the fans don't put out a second mortgage.

This is also one of the reasons why I welcome digital distribution, minimal effort to release, no profit loss from overshipping the game, fans are happy that they don't need to sell their first born to buy a game and future generations don't have to worry about not being able to play a game that their parents and grandparents told them about.

I don't know how to end this except this: Try out the games I mentioned on this article, they're great.

I come from the UK.

You wanna talk about getting stiffed over by developers in terms of distribution?

Right here, baby.

You have it easy in comparison.

But that said, I'm completely with you 100% on this. Just saying. You thought you had it bad? We had it a lot worse.

I'm sorry, Blokeh, but most companies market their games toward people, not mist-based lifeforms. It sucks, but that's the reality of the situation.

Want me to go get the pre-owned copy of Wild ARMs I paid £27 for about 8 years ago?

Yeah... and that was cheaper than eBay...

Lunar 2 EBC for $3. I am not fucking shitting you. Granted I had none of the bonus shit but I'm glad I picked that one up :)

With Raiku on this. I'm glad Atlus released their games cause it really is the fanbase that suffers. We want to play the games, and not pay stupid amounts for "rarity" taxes.

Nevada seems to be an ass-backwards example.

I can find Ace Attorney Investigations at every gamestop or wal-mart.

I found 3 copies of Persona 3 (the original limited run with artbook and soundtrack) for $20 each at a K-Mart more than 2 years after release.

Tales of Destiny PS1 for $40 complete and used at a local game store.

I'm happy I live where I do...

That said, I understand how ya feel Raiku, especially with the Ace Attorney series.

I feel like I have this discussion with you all the time Raiku, and understand that I don't disagree but you should offer a little more understanding to the companies of these niche games that you so eagerly petition to be bought to your shores.
While a few of the examples you give are certainly do fit the criteria of miss managed, many of the others are limited releases because the next step up would take them way over the user base. While Atlus cuts it fine, sometimes a little short, a larger run would leave them out of pocket (and the manufactured rarity drives sales).
Those companies that don't bring them over games you want have done a cost analysis and however much you, me, and everyone on this site (the hardcore I mean) are not enough to turn a profit.
I do feel your pain, but reduced priced games means the company lost cash, and probably don't make money from those sales anyway.
Ultimately though, yes, digital is the solution.
