1st 1987 - Konami releases Castlevania for the NES in the USA. 2005 - Nintendo releases Pokémon Emerald for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
3rd 2002 - Nintendo launches the GameCube in Europe.
4th 2004 - Rockstar releases Red Dead Revolver for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the USA.
6th 1995 - Nintendo of America announces its Ultra 64 game machine. Release target date is April 1996. 1998 - Sony releases the Dual Shock controller for the PlayStation in the US.
8th 1990 - Lewis Galoob Toys introduces the Game Genie cartridge for the NES.
9th 2006 - At a press conference in Los Angeles before the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Nintendo announces the release name for its next-generation console system: Wii, shows a conventional controller for it, and demonstrates The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy for it. Nintendo says it has sold 16 million Nintendo DS systems worldwide.
11th 1995 - Sega of America begins shipping the Saturn video game system in the US. Total sales in North America over its lifetime: 1.3 million. 1995 - The first Electronic Entertainment Expo (now known as E3) is held in Los Angeles, over three days. The show takes its name from Electronic Entertainment magazine. 350 game companies show 1300 games for video game systems and personal computers. Total attendance is 28,000. Sony introduces the PlayStation in a US$4 million booth, including an appearance by Michael Jackson. Sony announces the launch date of the PlayStation as September 9, with a retail price of $299. Atari announces a price cut to $149 for the Jaguar system, and demonstrates its Virtual Reality product for the Jaguar. SNK shows the $500 NeoGeo CD system. 2004 - In Los Angeles, California, Nintendo unveils the Nintendo DS. Nintendo also announces it is working on a new console code named "Revolution". Sony CEA also unveils the Sony PSP.
12th 1999 - Nintendo announces its next-generation console, code-named "Dolphin". It will use a 400 MHz "Gekko" processor developed with IBM, based on the PowerPC processor.
13th 1996 - Nintendo releases Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES in the US.
14th 2001 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle Of Seasons games for the Game Boy Color in the US. 2008 - Microsoft reports total sales of the Xbox 360 video game system have reached 10 million, beating the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 to that sales level.
16th 2007 - Sony reports its games division lost US$1.9 billion during the fiscal year.
17th 1989 - In New York, Tengen holds a reception for retailers, trade representatives, and press for the launch of Tetris. 2004 - J.C. Padilla scores 2,181,619,994,299,256,480 on Giga Wing 2 on the Dreamcast, setting a record for the highest score on any game.
18th 1994 - Sony forms the Sony Computer Entertainment of America company, to market the PlayStation CD-based video game system in the US, to be introduced in 1995.
20th 1992 - Sega of America announces a partnership with Sony Electronic Publishing to develop video games on compact disks. Sega plans to introduce in November a CD-ROM player for the Sega Genesis game system, for $299.
21st 1984 - Atari introduces the Atari 7800 ProSystem. It features higher resolution graphics than the Atari 5200, optional keyboard to make it a home computer, and compatibility with Atari 2600 cartridges.
26th 2009 - Sony Computer Entertainment releases inFamous for the PlayStation 3 in the USA.
27th 1986 - In Japan, Enix releases Dragon Quest for the Famicom. 1.5 million copies are sold.
28th 1993 - Disney releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Super Mario Bros. to theaters in the US. Total American theater ticket sales: $21 million. 2003 - In Tokyo, Japan, Sony vice president Ken Kutaragi unveils the PSX, combining a PlayStation 2 game player with DVD recorder. The PSX includes a broadcast satellite tuner, 120 GB hard drive, Memory Stick slot, and Ethernet and USB ports.
31st 1991 - At the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, Illinois, Sony announces the Play Station video game system that can play Nintendo's new 16-bit game cartridges, as well as games on compact disC. The Play Station system is set to cost about $400. 1998 - Nintendo releases Banjo-Kazooie for the Nintendo 64 in the US.
