1st
1991 - At the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, Illinois, Nintendo announces the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The 16-bit system will use new game cartridges, and compact discs using a CD-ROM drive developed with Philips N.V. The system is to be available for sale in September.
1998 - Nintendo releases the GameBoy Camera and GameBoy Printer in the US. The camera goes for $49.95 and the printer $59.95.

3rd
1983 - "Shall we play a game?" Joshua scares the living bejesus out of a young Matthew Broderick in the movie WarGames, released this day.

4th
1989 - At the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, Nintendo introduces the Game Boy portable hand-held video game system, with monochrome display. Price is $89.95, including the Tetris game cartridge. Also at the same show, Atari introduces the Lynx, another portable gaming system. Price is $149.95 including one game.

5th
1978 - Taito unleashes Space Invaders on the Japanese public. Over 350,000 machines are sold worldwide.
1995 - EarthBound hits the SNES in the US.

10th
1992 - Capcom releases Street Fighter II: Championship Edition into US arcades. This allowed players to choose the four bosses and use the same character as each other.

11th
2001 - Nintendo release the GameBoy Advance in North America, alongside Super Mario Advance and Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon.
2006 - The DS Lite is released in the US.

12th
2008 - Konami releases Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The La-li-lu-le-lo for the PS3 in the US.

13th
2000 - SNK withdraws from the US market. sadface.png

15th
2001 - Paramount release the first Tomb Raider movie in cinemas. Its alright, but nothing special.

16th
1989 - Ghostbusters II is released, and in the game Lewis Tully asks Janine Melnitz if she wants to play Super Mario Bros while babysitting, and later, the Ghostbusters use a NES Advantage joystick to control the Statue Of Liberty through New York's streets.

19th
2001 - Sega releases Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast in the US.

21st
2005 - Majesco releases Psychonauts on the PS2 in the US. Never heard of it? Then go play in traffic you uncultured swine.

22nd
1999 - Sony CEA release Ape Escape on the PlayStation. It is the first PlayStation game to require the use of a Dual Shock controller.
2001 - The GameBoy Advance reaches UK shores.

23rd
1991 - Sega introduces the little blue hedgehog Sonic to the world on the Genesis/MegaDrive and GameGear systems. Oh what happened to simpler times, Sonic?
1996 - Nintendo ships the Nintendo Sixty FOOOOOOUUUUUURRRRRR in Japan. 500,000 units sell in the first week.

24th
1992 - At a meeting in Sony headquarters in Japan, president Norio Ohga decides to break from making a Nintendo-compatible 16-bit machine, and "chart our own course". Today marked the start of the PlayStation's creation and eventual domination (until the PS3, but hey, nobody's perfect...)

25th
2007 - Nintendo's stock value reaches $53.06 billion.

28th
1972 - Atari Inc. is formed by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. And so it begins...
2000 - Acclaim Entertainment release the Mortal Kombat: Special Forces game. Its utter dogshit.

29th
1999 - GT Interactive releases Driver on the PlayStation.

30th
1982 - A census shows that 8,000,000 US homes have videogames in them.
1983 - Atari announces a loss of $310,500,000 for the second quarter of 1983, thus beginning one of gamings darkest hours...
1987 - Sega releases OutRun for the Mark III system in Japan.
1998 - Take 2 Interactive release the first Grand Theft Auto game on the PlayStation.
