1995 - Acclaim releases the Mortal Kombat 3 video game for the PlayStation in the UK.
1996 - Acclaim Entertainment releases Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the Nintendo 64 in the US, and Nintendo releases Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble for the Super NES in the US.
2001 - Enix releases Dragon Warrior VII for the PlayStation in the US.
2004 - Sony begins selling a smaller version of the PlayStation 2 video game system in the United States and Europe.
2007 - Nintendo releases Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii in Japan.

7th
2006 - Red Octane releases Guitar Hero II for the Playstation 2 in the USA, and Microsoft releases Gears of War for the Xbox 360 in the USA. (Total worldwide sales in the first three weeks: 1 million units.)
2008 - Microsoft Game Studios releases Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360 in USA.

8th
1982 - General Consumer Electronics introduces the Vectrex, the first home gaming system with a built-in 9-inch monochrome vector monitor.
1992 - Sega of America releases the Sega CD Multimedia Entertainment System, with a CD player, for US$299. The unit is an add-on product for the Genesis system. It features MC68000 processor, two music CDs, and 2 game discs, including Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, Columns, Golden Axe, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Super Monaco GP1.
2005 - Red Octane releases Guitar Hero for the PlayStation 2 in the US

9th
2004 - Microsoft releases Halo 2 for the Xbox in the US. Price is US$50 for standard version or US$55 for a deluxe edition. First day sales total 2.4 million units in North America, for US$125 million revenue. 3.3 million copies are sold in the first month.

10th
2006 - Sony releases the PlayStation 3 in Japan. (Total sales in the first nine days: 133,000.)
2009 - Activision Blizzard releases Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA and UK. First day sales in the United Kingdom: 1.23 million units, a new record. First day sales in the USA: 4.7 million, a new record. Also today, Microsoft bans about 600,000 Xbox Live users worldwide for operating modified Xbox 360 consoles.

12th
1999 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis video game for the PlayStation in the US.
2007 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario Galaxy video game for the Wii in the USA. First week sales: 500,000.

13th
1982 - Scott Safran of Pennsylvania scores a world record 41,336,440 in Asteroids. The record continued to hold through until 2005.
2001 - Konami releases Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PlayStation 2 in the US. 1.8 million copies are sold in the first two weeks.

14th
1979 - At Atari, Jed Margolin proposes "Warp Speed", a 3D perspective graphics first-person space war game played against either a person at a linked machine, or a computer-controlled enemy player. The proposal is approved and is later released as the Star Wars arcade game.
2000 - Square EA releases Final Fantasy IX for the PlayStation in the US.
2002 - Microsoft officially launches the Xbox Live online gaming service in the US, and releases the Xbox Live Starter Kit in the US. Price is US$49.99, including a one-year subscription to Xbox Live. The service requires a broadband Internet connection.

15th
1982 - Atari signs an agreement with Nintendo for the world-wide license of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior video games for Atari home computers.
1999 - Nintendo releases Donkey Kong 64 for the Nintendo 64 in the US. Included within the game is the original Donkey Kong video game.
2001 - Microsoft launches the Xbox game system in North America. Price is US$299. 500,000 units are sold in the first seven days; 1.5 million in the first month.
2009 - Nintendo releases New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the Nintendo Wii in the USA.

17th
1997 - Square releases Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation in Europe.
2003 - Nintendo releases Mario Kart: Double Dash!! for the GameCube in the US.
2004 - Konami releases Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the PlayStation 2 in the US.

2001 - Nintendo releases the GameCube in the US. Price is US$199.95. Over 500,000 are sold in the first week in the US, the biggest game machine launch in the country to date.

2006 - Nintendo releases the Wii in North and South America. Price is US$249.99 in the USA, and CDN$279.95 in Canada. Total sales in first 8 days: 600,000.

21st
1989 - Atari introduces the Lynx hand-held video game system bundled with the California Games video game cartridge. This is the first colour hand-held video game system in the US.
1990 - In Japan, Nintendo releases the Super Family Computer (Super Famicom) game system, and includes the Super Mario World game. 300,000 units ships on the first day of release; four million ship within the first year. Also released are F-Zero and Pilotwings.
1994 - Nintendo releases Donkey Kong Country for the Super NES in the US and Canada. Price is US$69.95. The game was developed by Rare in England. First week sales amount to US$35 million. 8.5 million copies sell over its lifetime.
2009 - Nintendo launches the Nintendo DSi XL in Japan, with a 4.2-inch diagonal screen. Price is 20,000 yen (US$222). Case color choices are dark brown, wine red, and white.

22nd
1994 - Sega introduces the Saturn in Japan. Price is 44800 yen (about US$450). Sales in the first two days: 250,000. 500,000 units are sold in the first month. 9 million units are sold over the unit's lifetime worldwide.
2002 - Midway releases Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Game Boy Advance in the US. Midway declares the day "Fatality Friday". Sales by the end of the year reach 1 million copies.
2005 - Microsoft launches the Xbox 360 in North America. Sales in the first five days in the US: 325,902.

23rd
1991 - Square releases Final Fantasy II for the Super NES in the US. This is the same game as Final Fantasy IV in Japan.
1998 - Nintendo releases the Game Boy Color handheld video game system in the US.

24th
1992 - Sega releases Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Genesis and Game Gear game systems. Sega calls the day "Sonic 2sday"
1995 - At the Shoshinkai show in Chiba, Japan, Nintendo displays the 64-bit cartridge-based Nintendo 64 video game system. Target ship date is April 21, for 25,000 yen (US$250). Games demonstrated are Super Mario 64 and Kirby's Air Ride. Nintendo gives details of the 64DD add-on for the Nintendo 64, with a 64 MB hard drive.

25th
1998 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 in the US. Price is US$59.95.

26th
2002 - Square and Enix announce they are merging companies to form Square Enix by April 1, 2003

27th
1998 - In Japan, Sega Enterprises releases the Dreamcast video game system. It features a 200 MHz 128-bit Hitachi SH-4 processor, special NEC graphics processing chip, 26 MB RAM (16 MB main memory, 2 MB sound, 8 MB video), built-in 56 kbps modem, serial port, Web browser, Microsoft Windows CE operating system, one controller, and CD-ROM drive for 1 GB capacity disks. Price is 29,800 Yen, about US$220. 101,490 units sell in the first week. About 10 million systems and 400 different games are shipped in the product's lifetime. Sega also releases the Virtua Fighter 3TB video game for the Dreamcast

28th
2000 - Sony releases the PlayStation 2 video game system in the United Kingdom.

29th
1972 - Atari ships Pong. The first Pong cabinet debuts in Andy Capp's Tavern in Sunnyvale, California, and about 10,000 units are sold, making this the first commercially-successful video game.

I remember, back in grade 4 when we first heard of Dreamcast, that we all call it "a Nintendo Sixty FOOOOOOUUUUUURRRRRR and PlayStation in one!" We thought it was another feeble attempt from Sega...how wrong we were.
