So, it's pretty well known that I've never been able to get into the Final Fantasy series. I've tried III (DS version), VII, VIII, X, X-2, XI, XII. I guess I just didn't "get" them, y'know? I didn't like the characters really, and just couldn't get into them (inb4 XI was MMO and thus the character was me, it was just not my style MMO).

So, I went out with some Amazon credit I had and followed through with a promise I made to Lightning's VA when I met her once, "I'll try the game eventually."

So, here's the deal. I like it. A lot.

I've heard all the complaints of "For ___ hours, it's just linear and not open at all." So, that's true, but... it makes sense in the context of what's going on, and how they wanted you to jump between the split parties. For the most part, I like the characters well enough (minus Hope, that little bitch).

I just got to the part where the game really opens up, and I have room to roam. I dunno, the game just makes sense to me. It doesn't rank with the likes of Tales of Xillia or Vesperia imo, but it's good.

So, for you bastards that know, should I bother getting XIII-2 when I finish or will I just be disappointed?

FFXIII... it's not the best FF game, not by a long shot, but it is very enjoyable once it opens up and becomes more accessible.

Without trying to give too much away, a lot of the boss battles in FFXIII rely on having specific parties and abuse of the Stagger, and without proper planning, you can be really up shit creek. That said, it is fun.

FFXIII-2 is without a doubt the greatest FF game since IX on PS1. I cannot think of a single thing wrong with that game. Not a single fucking thing. It's glorious in every possible way, and I really do hope you beat FFXIII soon so you can get part 2 and then I can hear about how fucking in love with it you are, because even writing this is making me want to boot it back up and take on some of the enemies in the Coliseum again. I platinum'd the shit out of FFXIII-2. Godlike.

FFXIII-3 I have only recently beaten, and while it's a massive change from the first two combat-style, it brilliantly concludes the whole thing. The fact you have a clock that constantly ticks down, and the fact you have 13 game days to save the world or it's fucking game over, really adds to the urgency of it all. But at the same time, if you're good, you can essentially "suspend" time, and spend a practically limitless amount of time doing shit.

You know what? Fuck it. FFXIII is good but could have been better. FFXIII-2 is god-tier. FFXIII-3 is the perfect ending.

You will have so much fun.

I've been trying to get through XIII, for the sake of playing the sequels but I'm really struggling to keep interest. I'm right at the end now, and It'll only be a few more hours before I'm finished with it, but I just wanna have done with it.

I'm not enjoying it at all and I can't enthuse over it. I like the style of it, I just find nothing interesting. From the 1-person controlled combat to the shitty way the bosses can only be beaten using a certain, required technique.

So, either there's a lot of bosses that I haven't fought yet (I'm on the last chapter), or setting up paradigms and shifting on the fly makes more sense to me than others? I've never run into a situation where I've had to have specific party members... Certain paradigm combinations are definitely ideal, but I've never had an issue with the six that I've set up with Lightning, Fang, and Vanille. I've just been keeping up on keeping my skills updated and equipment upgraded.

There are certain methods that definitely are more effective with bosses, but generally keeping Lightning as Ravager, Fang as Commando/Sentinel, and Vanille as Saboteur/Medic/Ravager hasn't failed me yet.

The Eidolons all required a specific set of paradigms to beat them, which I hated because they were the only times I ever used SEN or SAB.

The second game makes up for it though.

Probably about halfway through chapter 12 now, my previous post was wrong. I don't know why I said I was on the last chapter. Took a break 'cause Miku, but I'll probably play bit by bit through the next week. Won't be able to jump onto XIII-2 until after August probably, since I'll be short on cash due to lots of stuff I gotta do. Looking forward to it though!

I doubt I'll bother with cleaning up the remaining achievements after I finish, since they seem like a grind, and this isn't a Tales game.
