Well I keep losing cause I don't invest enough money into it.

Anybody here taken the A+ Certification test? I have to sign up for the test soon and I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice to what I would expect on the test. Also, once you get the certification do you have to update it once a new test comes out and the test you have taken retires?

Have you tried taking any practice exams? There's lots online.

Have you completed any computer science classes yet? You're gonna need them.

computer science classes? um, I am finishing up soon my PC hardware and software class. I didn't even do intro to programming yet. My Professor says I am ready now to talk the A+ test. I haven't taken a practice test yet but I will soon.

A+ is a joke. Study up on your ISA cards, IRQ settings, and Windows 95. That thing is like 10 years behind schedule.

A+ is a great start into an IT career, but yes he would need to study more. Network+ then S+ would earn him a decent salary off the bat. Then he could study something more specialised.

As someone who is involved in the hiring process in our IT department I can tell you A+ certs mean as much as college credits do. When it comes to IT all we care about is real world experience. Hearing you've been the IT guy for your family and friends for the last year is more impressive than the A+ cert.

People still use Windows 95?

If we're gonna go with that, know that I've known plenty of people, quite well, who ultimately make the decision to hire IT staff at big name companies. And while I'm not saying you're wrong (as yes, a CV with a huge list of skills is great), you're essentially talking down what he's doing, and what he's doing could really help him kickstart his career.

He doesn't have the raw skills to put on his CV yet, that's the point. As soon as he hits his first, entry level role, he'll no doubt pick up these skills. As opposed to saying "fuck college, I'm gonna sit in my room and learn ISA".

This is the kids career, dude, and I don't think we should be putting him off. I've seen plenty of people (Including Erbs from our very forum) take the same path Joey is taking, and have found themselves with decent careers. There's nothing wrong with what Joey is doing.

A+ is a globally recognised qualification and is generally the first steps in the field. If it wasn't helping anyone, I think people would be smart enough to stop taking it.

A+ will help you get into some entry-level area, because the suits want to see that you put forth SOME sort of effort that goes beyond, "HURR I USE COMPUTER".

But it won't make you the big cheese.

Welp, broke up with my girlfriend. I think the downfall from this was rushing into a relationship as I just got out of one. We went on a break and she just got really depressed and super emo. We really had nothing in common... Oh well, I need to get to know the person before I get into something. I am okay.
