I've never been a fan of GTA style missions and still have not completed GTA IV single player. And yet, it is one of my favorite games this generation. Never before has there been such a living breathing city in a videogame. Niko was a great character and I related a lot to him as I had moved to the city from a small town around the same time I was playing the game. Niko's adventures as a newcomer in Liberty City paralleled my own adventures in reality. I never could get into the other GTA games, even though those had much the same gameplay. I'd have a little fun smashing up cars and killing pedestrians, but that would be it. What sets GTA IV apart from the previous games is the depth of the characters, the story, and the city.

You've still not finished it? Dude, seriously, you owe it to yourself to finish it. Amazing game is indeed amazing. And I agree with the characters thing - while the other games were bloody good in their own rights, GTA IV seemed to have more of its focus on the characters than anything else. Certain times, certain decisions, I went with those that I felt would be best for Niko rather than what I wanted to do.

But I gotta say, never have I had as much fun with a GTA game as I did when a few of us got together, scaled those two towers that look like those from the first Men In Black movie, tooled up to fuck, and then started attracting police attention, all just to see how long we could last. Ended up with some guarding the stairways up from cops, and the others with rockets and snipers, trying to keep the choppers at bay.

I have a lot of time on my hands for the next month as I'm done with exams an don't head back down south for another month. So if I bought a PS3 copy would you guys be up for playing some of this?

Well I would highly recommend playing the single player campaign first to get a feel for the game, but god yes I'm down for some MP fun.

To give you some idea of the multiplayer modes on offer (and there's 15 of them), my personal favourites are:

Bomb Da Base II
Hangman's NOOSE
Deal Breaker

But for serious giggles, "Deathmatch - any island - RPGs only - high pedestrians - high traffic - no cops" is what you want.

I own GTA IV on 360 and used to play online with friends so I know the opportunities it can offer, do you guys have any of the DLC or should I just get the standard version?

Ah fairy muff...

I don't yet have the DLC, but they're on my radar. If you're going for it, then I'd just suggest the basic GTAIV unless you can find the full bundle for cheap enough...

I definitely plan on finishing the story sometime before GTA V comes out. I do come back to the game to have some fun now and then but I haven't found the time to really get through the rest of the missions. I've been so busy the past year that I haven't really had time to play much of anything and I can't see it letting up any time soon, but by god I will finish that game.

And Blokey being the herpderp trololololol kinda guy that he is, will probably take us all on a nice helicopter ride, then jump out when we are 500m in the air, leaving us all in the chopper, falling to our doom.
