You see this picture?

You see the little disc just to the bottom right of the lens itself?

Or this one, with the weird shiny thing to the right of the lens?

Or in the case of Cas's phone, the orange disc on the back of the Sony Eriksson W810i?

Well, if you look at all those little shiny things, they're reflective. And if you turn the camera on, face it to you, and ensure your head is dead centre in that shiny reflective surface, then when you take the photo, your head will be dead centre of the picture.

That's what those things are for.

Neither my camera nor cellphone has that. Plus, I wouldn't be able to see anything in that tiny mirror anyway..

Surprisingly, you can make out more than you think in that mirror. At the very least you'll be able to see your head and centre it on the picture, and the most you'll be able to see what face you're pulling.

I has a Nokia 5330 Black, and it has one of those things and its surprisingly clear. Not only does it allow for head centring, but also, if you can't see the whole of your face in the reflection, it'll be cut out of the photo too. Its pretty damned useful for taking portraits.

Strange that yours don't. But look around at your friends' phones or cameras, and I'm sure you'll not only see one somewhere, and if you do, give it a go. Its quite the epiphany.
