Alright you Final Fantasy "know-it-alls" I am going to try this "best FF game of the series" I just need to know. Which version should I play SNES or PS1?
Should I also record me playing this?

I say GBA version.

SNES is all good, but graphics do leave a little to be desired. PS1 version comes with cutscenes that, for me, don't feel right with the old-school look.

GBA version is epic, and has a bunch of extras not found in either other copy.

Also, record away, but I forsee you getting bored of it before the castle ups and fucks off. Not because its rubbish (cos it isn't), but because you have the attention span of a kid with ADHD after eating a bag of sugar. ;)

There is a GBA version? Well, alright then.

Yeah, the GBA version is awesome. It'll be included in the ROM, but once you beat the game you open up a music player with the whole OST ready to play, and theres also a bestiary that fills up as you defeat enemies. Don't think either of these are in the other versions - I know it isn't in the SNES version.

The music player and besitary are extras in all the GBA FF ports I believe (1, 2, 4, 5 and 6).

I haz dem all.

I'll get to this game later. I just have a one question: Is Bahamut as boss as he is in FFX?

Bahamut Zero (FFVII:CC) > every other form of Bahamut ever > Bahamut (FFX)

I hear the PS1 version has really bad load times. It will probably be the cheapest option though. It also comes with FFV!

Was gonna call you out on this, but turns out that the EU got 4+5 in one pack and 6 separately, whereas you lot got 5+6 in one pack...

Which is pretty cool, considering I also love 5 to pieces. Job system FTFW.

Yeah, we got 1+2 (Origins), 5+6 (Anthology) and...4+Chrono Trigger as Final Fantasy Chronicles

^This.

I only bought Anthology though. Later I bought 1 and 2 for GBA. I beat Chrono Trigger on a rom and FF4/2 I actually played on SNES

Ok, that video was pretty boss. Going to boot up FF6 in a bit to see if it is worthy.

yes, playing the PS1 version on a PS2 was horrible, not sure how it would do on a PS3. If you can get your hands on the SNES one I'd go that route just to have it on a bigger screen with better speakers. If not the GBA version is good too.

Side Note: Gau is the only bestiary you need. Can't leap into monsters you haven't fought before.

All of this FF talk has got me thinking recently: that maybe I should actually play through these damn things and see what the fuss is about. FFXIII was the first I actually put a reasonable amount of time into even though I have a lot of the older ones. While XIII isn't exactly bad, I don't think if all the games were similar to it the series would be so legendary. There has to be be something else there.

Start with 4, not just because I'm a massive faggot for it, but because out of the two you SHOULD start with (4 and 6), 4 is the easier to get to grips with. Its quick, easy, and enjoyable to boot. In 6, you get a few times where parties split and sometimes its not obvious to a newbie what to do next, but once you're into the style then you'll find it second nature.

Then I strongly advise either 7 or 9. Preferably 9, because its fucking awesomesauce from the goddamn gods themselves. 7, on the other hand, is overrated (in my opinion), while still being good, and is very easy to get into. The problem with 7 is that, given the titles oversaturation in todays gaming, you might want to get the other games out of the way first.

If you have a PS2, get FFXII for a massive blast. Skip X altogether, although reading up on it and then playing X-2 isn't a bad idea, as its far better than X ever fucking wished it could be.

So, in order, you should play:

FF4 > FF6 > FF9 (maybe FF7 too just to see what the fuss is about) > FF12 > FFX-2 > then whatever else you fancy.

Fanboy might disagree, but thems my bets for introducing a dude into the world of FF.

I was actually thinking about going in order or what I have  So that would be I, II, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII. I got far-ish in I (I was on the last Fiend I think) and actually thought it was OK. Is going in release order just weird though?

I think I got thinking about this also because I was like "...I'm gonna graduate soon, TIME FOR GAMES" :D
