Both sides need to come together to get work done but they don't seem to want to workout a deal. The president doesn't want to make compromise and get the US government up and running but he is willing to go talk to the president of Iran. Both sides are to blame for this shut down and they could have avoided this shut down if they didn't take 5 weeks off over the summer. They knew this was coming.

Just stop talking. Obamacare has nothing to do with passing the budget. It's already law. The republicans are just refusing to accept it and are using this to press that issue.

It would be like if you and I shared a house. And every month we each put $100 into a shared account for house repairs. Every even month you got to put up one piece of art and every odd month I got to put up one piece of art. The stipulation being that we could never take each others art down once it was up. Now 6 months in you put up a piece of art that I despise and I want you to take it down. Our water heater also just went out. I can't take down the art myself so instead I refuse to fix the water heater until you take your art down.

I know the affordable health care act went into law by the book. I did not once mention it in my post so no, I will not stop talking you just need to read. I am just saying that both side need to work together but they aren't. I know how laws work fanboy. HERE BE SECRETSI don't want to start a democrat vs republican thread on UUDD. Maybe it could be started in the battleground forum but I don't wanna cause stress on any of the mods/admins. Plus, some people are so far left on this board Nintendo will not even look at them so any debate we would have on here wouldn't work.

OK, here's a chance for people to put forward their views. I have a hard enough time following your moon politics as it is, but my understanding from what I've picked up from the news stories:

Obama is the top dog, he was voted in with an open and fair election.

The government has to lay out its spending budget for the next N years.

Obama makes a list of all the stuff he wants to buy.

The opposition says "You ain't buying that stuff"

Government shuts down (does this include public outdoor recreational facilities? Just want to know if the pool's closed)

So... who is in charge of your country? I always figured being in charge meant you got to decide what happened.

[note]
This isn't a troll, in the UK, the government announces the Budget, the opposition normally bitches and says "If we were in power, we'd do this". But they're not, so the budget goes through. Cos the government is in power.

Joey, it's a law. There's no compromise to be made here. People are calling this a game of chicken, but it's not a game of chicken if you're driving in your own lane and some guy in oncoming traffic swerves into your lane and crashes into you, that's just an asshole causing a head-on collision (again, thank you, Jon Stewart). Certain people want to attach amendments to the law, but they can't get the votes to do it, so they're creating insane rhetoric to put the blame on anyone but themselves for helping to create this situation. This isn't a case where the blame lies on everyone. Obama did shit by the book and he got enough votes in Congress to make this thing a law. What's happening now IS lawful; it's just the ridiculously shitty equivalent of a kid going boneless and screaming in the middle of the grocery store because his mom won't let him have some chocolate right there, right now. Now his brothers and sisters that have been well-behaved all day have to go without and suffer the public indignity of being related to the little bastard kicking his heels on the floor.*

*This is a reference to all of the gov't workers that had nothing to do with this decision having to go on furlough (read: no pay while living in one of the most expensive places to live on earth) until Congress gets its thumb out of its ass and passes a budget.

they all agree on the budget. the thing keeping it from passing is obamacare. so there is no compromise needed. hence, even though you didn't mention obamacare that is the issue. if you didn't know that then you don't know what you're talking about which is why i said just stop talking. not because you shouldn't have a voice, but because you need to know what you're talking about before you start talking.

I don't get why this whole Obamacare thing is even an issue.

I can guarantee that anyone who opposes this thing would - without a second's thought - beg for it if they ever got turned down by their insurance, which is a fucking joke in itself.

But yeah, my question echoes Pie's.

What point is there in being in charge if you can't do shit without seeking permission?

It's like going to war and then not fighting because the other country doesn't want to get blowed the fuck up.

checks and balances man. He's only in charge of the executive branch. The legislative branch passes the budget.

You're being really naive here. The US system of government is designed to prevent one man having tyranny over the country. Their government's powers are seperated to ensure this (Obama had to vacate his senate seat when he became president) while our government's powers are fused (Cameron remains the MP of his constituency while PM). The US system is an absolute labyrinth of checks and balances that I'm incredible rusty on as it's been 2 years since I studied any sort of US politics. It's not worth arguing about if you aren't immensely familiar with the subject.

No, I get that it's the whole "let's not have another Hitler" or "that Saddam Hussein thing was a bit bad wasn't it" thing, not allowing anyone to have absolute power because we all know how THAT works out. That makes sense.

What doesn't make sense - which my original comment didn't accurately reflect - is exactly what Pie says. The guy at the top is the face, but the body is another entity, and in this case, the opposition.

The Pres = Man
Congress = Woman
America = Sex

Man wants to save money.
Woman wants to spend money.
No sex for anyone until one gives in.

The head doesn't know what the arse is doing. Or should I say it does, but neither wants the other doing what it does best.

Its a fucking recipe for disaster, as we're seeing.

we were never meant to be a democracy. democracies are bad as the 51% get to tell the 49% what to do.

If you had politicians worth their salt, it would never be that ratio.

Unfortunately only a few countries in the world have decent politicians.

Well, country.

Well, Blokaria does.

SimCity4 FTW.
