Also how are they going to get around the whole 'running into a floating pebble at FTL speeds' thing? Seems to me that a rock isn't going to give a fuck about a vacuum warp bubble.

Because to my understanding, the ship isn't actually moving at FTL speeds, it's moving at regular ship speeds, while space expands behind it, and contracts in front of it, essentially making the distance they have to travel much shorter, while "pushing it" closer in addition.
So a floating pebble would only be as catastrophic as they normally are.
Which is to say, very, still.
