GODOMOT

Just so you know Smokey, you disgusting Penguins fan, Zbynek Michalek kicks ASS. You guys got yourselves a DAMN good defenseman.

EDIT: More sad face: Looks like we also dumped Matthew Lombardi, Dan Winnick, Big Jim Vandermeer (it isnt officially "Big Jim", but it should be. Was resident face crusher in Phoenix last season), and a couple others :(. Man I wish we'd get some damn ownership already. Geez.

Your resentment is delicious.

I AM RICH WITH RESENTMENT! Zbynanek Michalek was (for about two year running, until this prior season) the #1 shot blocking defenseman in the NHL. Who wouldn't what that kind of player on their team? Whatever price at which you acquired him was undoubtedly a bargain, and the Penguins defense corp. will undoubtedly be improved because of this acquisition.

As is obvious, I have NOTHING but excellent things to say about Michalek. Now I know how Rob (Kombo's resident San Jose fan. You know him Smokey!) felt when Ottawa picked up his brother, Milan Michalek.

Yep, Penguin defense is looking downright fearsome right now. I'm glad you spotted this, 'cause most of my attention has been on the 'Canes and who we might be getting here in Charlotte.

Speaking of, I don't remember if I've put this in here, but I'm fucking stoked about the possibility of having a Staal playing here in Charlotte. We may not have him long, but holy shit, we're gonna whoop ass while we do.

In all fairness I only spotted it because he's a Coyote. Also, I was drunk.

I just remembered it from that one pic you put up, and I was feeling decidedly perverse, the only reason I even said it.

The Pens D is definitely looking strong now, and given it was their most glaring weakness last season, it was great work by Shero to shore it up. I think the acquisitions of Michalek and Martin will really settle the backend down, and hopefully Fleury, as I don't think he had a particularly good year last year.

It will be interesting to see what Shero does with the Wings now though? We lost, at least as of this point, Guerin, Poni and Fedotenko from our top 6 wings, and have yet to replace them. All this, and we have only 2-3 million left in cap space.

I've heard some really crazy rumours, regarding the Pens and Selanne/Kariya, but I don't put much stock in them. If they came at bargain basement prices, the Pens would be even more awesome, give both of Sid and Gino and decent winger to play with, and then we add a prospect like Tangradi/Conner/Letestu/Jeffrey each line to round on the positions. Not ideal to have two youngsters in your top 6, but when the other 4 names are Crosby, Malkin, Selanne, and Kariya, I think you can live with it.

Well, if Sypher's not gonna bring this thread back up, then I will.

Since my last post in here, we did indeed get the fourth Staal in the Hurricanes organization, and he is indeed playing here in Charlotte, but to be totally honest, he hasn't been that impressive. It's still early in the season, so hopefully he'll improve and pick up steam as the season progresses.

In the NHL, I spotted this on the fanboard for our team:

Be forewarned. Massive Philly fanboyism ensues.

Watching hockey on NBC right now Washington is beating Pittsburgh 2-0.

I would also like to mention on the 12th of March. I am going to a Devils game.

But...why?

To update on the fourth Staal situation, he is currently one of the better players on the 'Canes' ECHL affiliate team. Dude's really slow. But the Checkers won their past two games this weekend, so I'm good on the hockey front.

Well, I guess you should never pass up on free hockey, but a Devils game? Ick.

I am ashamed to say it, but I am a Devils fan or was. I know my 90's self was because they won all the cups then.

Yeah, the fact that they were in Jersey was kinda offset by them being bloody unstoppable, but they're not really that great anymore except for Brodeur, and he's old, so he won't be around much longer.
