Mixed Martial Arts, anyone?

Any MMA fans here? I've noticed the rising popularity of UFC in England and their last event was there as well so I'm guessing there probably are some fans here. :mrgreen:

I believe at the moment both Lady Y (the missus) and Smokey are both into their chop-socky action. Lady Y used to be an instructor, and although I know little about Smokey's kickassery, I know I wouldn't want to spill his drink.

I'm not opposed to mixing styles, but UFC and other forms of BJJ nutriding aren't exactly my cup of tea. If you haven't read some of the other Intro threads, I am a TKD blackbelt. Go ahead and take the obligatory shot if you must. I can take it. I won't like you much, but I can take it.

TKD = awesome. I will be starting TKD training this september. Right now I'm focusing mostly on Muay Thai as I find my strength lies mainly in stand-up rather than ground work or takedowns.

Oh, cool. I've never tried MT, but it looks hardcore. I don't know if I can start throwing knees and elbows after I've been taught that those are no-nos for the past three years.

You dont know what your missing with not allowing knees and elbows. a good knee strike to the thigh would knock anybody down, same with using your shin.

When I was in Newcastle I did Ninjutsu, had to give it up when I moved away as I couldn't find anywhere nearby that did it.

Moving back in exactly 2 weeks though so I'm planning on taking it up again. Can't wait, I very much enjoyed sparring with my old flatmate. :twisted:
