8.8 anyone?

So far Gamepro has given the lowest rating. Metacritic has it down as 8/1/ from Gamepro.

Well, the infamous 8.8 was from Jeff Gerstmann, and he's with Giant Bomb now. They have Patrick Klepek reviewing it instead of Jeff. Also I'm not entirely sure what this is about.

There's that, but the gaming community is all sorts of fucked up with the way they score things.

There's this one picture that describes what I'm saying, but I can't find it D:

It shows a graph, and it displays how a 7/10 score for a movie is generally accepted as good... Whereas for a game, people would think it was absolute shit. It shows that sort of thing

Anyways, I've got my collector's edition completely payed off. I'm just waiting till next Sunday to pick it up. I am excite.

Biggest problem is people automatically draw comparisons to other games and review scores and say dumb shit like "omg 0.2 less than x game from completely different genre, they must have been bribed boo!" it seems that most people don't realise that games are reviewed individually and everyones opinions are completely unique. One comment I saw earlier today said "i lost faith in gametrailers when they only gave skyrim 9.3" like 9.3 isn't an AMAZING score

Also, has anyone played Skyward Sword at all yet?
I had a chance to play that leaked E3 demo while I was out last week. Lemme be the first here to say that this game controls like a goddamn Batman dream. While the item controls take a second or two to get used to (they're better, trust me), using the sword feels completely natural. The enemy AI is also competent, so every battle feels like a unique encounter, rather than a quick distraction.

I honestly need to sell my games, recycle some bottle and cans or whore myself.

I want way to many games this November. That golden Wii controller is teasing the fuck out of me, and I know I won't be able to buy it

A friend and I are giving another friend the collector's edition for his birthday. Giving the gift of Zelda

I find all the games I'd be willing to trade aren't worth much of anything

While this isn't really a bad score, it's still rather low in comparison to the scores from many other reviewers.
I'm gonna read the review now, if only to see if the guy's got a point or two. I mean, this review scored the game lower than all four of Famitsu's judges, who's scores are usually insanely accurate on how solid a game is.

EDIT - While there are sometimes control issues in Wii games, they don't happen nearly as often as they had happened to this guy... Maybe his sensor bar was in direct sunlight, so sensor bar help got a bit fucked up? I dunno. Having played the game myself, I can't really sympathize with this guy's issues on that front. It also seems that he hates revisiting environments at any time at all... Which is odd, but it's his honest opinion. Who am I to bash that?

The one thing I will bash is his opinion of the sky. He compared it to Windwaker's ocean by saying it wasn't as populated. While this could be true, he said that Windwaker's ocean had you 'waiting to see what was around the corner'... I didn't feel that way, personally, so I'm inclined to disagree here. :\

It's a fair review though, and I give this guy a hand for differing from the mass opinion.

EDIT 2 - Just found out what still bugs me about this: They made a pre-review and built up hype for a standard score. Had they done this for a game that was getting a 10, then I could understand that... But why?

I'll reserve final judgement until I play the game myself, but by all accounts this guy is a moron. If there were control issues, one of the other reviews wouldve mentioned it. Also his complaints are ridiculous at best

My issue here is simple. Why do you have a man who doesn't like the Zelda formula reviewing the new Zelda game?

This game has an average rating of 90% and GameSpot comes in 15% lower. I think we can see who's out to lunch.

I'm beginning to wonder if this tool forgot to attach the WiiMotion Plus to his controller. He bitches about being able to just wag his sword and have it work, and unresponsive controls at the most inopportune times, yet IGN said emphatically that in this game, if you wag, you die.

His compaints are so contradictory of what everyone else has been saying about Skyward Sword.

If you like the Zelda formula, you already know you love it right? No need for a review from anyone ever.

No need to have anyone who doesn't love Madden review it, 'cause hey, they might not like American football, there's no reason to have it lose points 'cause the person doesn't like that kind of game, yeah?

I'm thinking maybe, just MAYBE, it's so you can get varying opinions from varying sources. Also, you said it yourself, the guy doesn't like the Zelda formula, it probably goes without saying that you should assume he's being a bit negative. On the other side of the coin, if the reviewer loves the Zelda formula, it should go without saying that you should assume he's being overly positive.


Also, am I the only person who thinks it's completely bullshit that they decide to just completely change Link to being right handed for bullshit waggle control reasons?

Fair points, but really, which is the lesser of two evils?

You either get a guy who likes the general formula of Zelda, but may or may not judge the game harshly because he holds the series in high regard. Or, a guy who goes into the game already not liking the formula, and not likely with the same enthusiasm that the fans of the series (the ones who are gonna care about the review) likely have?

I'd probably take the guy who at least likes the game format.

Or better yet, someone who quite honestly doesn't give a shit either way. lol


As for Link, I think I'd be more concerned if I were left handed lol. Honestly, you should be able to change his handedness in game.
