It's pretty interesting. I highly doubt this is true. I wasn't around the internet a lot when the original DS launched, so I really wouldn't know the accuracy of this article in regards to early comments. Nor do I remember a price drop shortly after, but this was quite a while ago. I'll probably look up these 'facts' a bit later.

That article made alot of sence. I am just glad I am getting 20 free games which 10 are GBA and NES.

A lot of it is anecdotal though I can relate. Most people thought Nintendo was mad and it wasn't until Nintendogs and the blue DS Phat did the price drop (and only then, it was $50 CDN from $200 to $150...dunno what the American drop was) and it actually really took off. The same shit people are saying about the Vita are near verbatim what many said about the PSP and the original DS.

What this drop is most similar to is the initial Dreamcast price drop back in 2000. It launched at $200, sales were awesome for the holidays and tapered off far too fast to the point where the PS1 was again outselling it. Wal-Mart initially cut the price to $150, then everyone followed suit. Sega wanted to cut by the holidays to coincide with the launch of SegaNet and the online gaming network, but then just made it official seeing as sales did pick up.

Up here in Canada, again Wal-Mart was the one to drop the price of the 3DS to $200. Future Shop and Best Buy followed suit with similar cuts to avoid lost sales and price matches. It was to the point where it actually got commented on at sites like Joystiq, as IIRC this was the first price cut the 3DS had in North America at a brick and mortar store. The history would suggest that Nintendo just went ahead and made it official.

Well it does make some sense, I mean the original DS Phat barely had any games. I was an early adopter and I had trouble being able to find games for weeks if not months at a time.

At least the 3DS has games.

I would like to have one, but the selection of games isnt all that hot. Really the stuff I am looking for is later down the line. Kid Icarus looks like fun.

Unless you like Wuhu Island or puppies... But you could get Wii Sports Resort and/or Nintendogs on the original DS and wii respectively for cheaper.

...That's disregarding people who love puppies ON planes... That would mean you gotta buy both systems.

Kid Icarus looks fun, but then again I'm left handed so I'm fairly sure it's impossible for me to play it.

There were far more appealing games on the original DS than there are the 3DS for me. In fact, there's still not a single 3DS game that I want.

Well I am still getting a 3DS, my main conerns were these

1. $250 price tag
2. Low battery life
3. Region lock

The first is sorta fixed, but the second two will always be there unless Nintendo nakes a new model for it.
