This is a device that Miyamoto seemed more interested in discussing in terms of how it will be used outside of gaming.

You could, he told me, use the controller to browse the web in your living room. You could use it, he suggested, to find something of interest on the Internet and "set it up" so that when the television was turned on to the console people could enjoy your discovery without needing to wait for any loading screens or on television web surfing.
Nintendo no longer cares about games. Sure they'll make an HD Zelda, an HD Mario, and whatever else, but they won't be anything special. They'll be the same boring crap they've put out for the last 5 years or so just in higher resolution.

The man is throwing out ideas on what the Wii U can do.

Did he say "We don't care about games"? No he didn't.

they kept asking about playing games, he kept coming back to how cool it is that you can look stuff up on the internet before your tv has a chance to turn on. without saying it, you can make an educated guess that he doesn't care about games.

Or you can just make a false assumption.

Really the way I interpret it, Miyamoto wants to acknowledge the other functions of the Wii U in order to show what the competition ISN'T doing. Taking a step back from games might sound weird, but maybe he just isn't ready to announce anything. Awhile ago after Smash Bros was announced, someone in Nintendo said it was a mistake to announce it because nothing was being done yet for the game. It was just in the early stages of development.

These are just ideas, nothing is really set in stone. Aside from the tech demos and the announcements of third party software, there isn't all that much we know about it.

You know how people are always saying that game consoles aren't just about games anymore? Yeah, Nintendo wants to show that it can do that, too. Nothing about getting away from games.

I've never seen much of a pro-Nintendo, or even neutral, slant from Kotaku anyway, so it's not surprising that the writer took something negative away from that.

I don't know why you would make such an extreme claim when Miyamoto just wants to explore a few new ideas.
Rather than talk about projects that aren't underway, he'd rather talk about a few interesting concepts that they're currently thinking through.

Looking for something different? Skyward Sword. I know you've said countless times that it looks terrible, but it's bringing a new spin to the Zelda franchise, and many fans are awaiting its release. I, personally, have heard nothing but good from the people who have tried it at E3, so I'm a bit hyped.

[/Nintendo_defense_force]

Seriously though, I'm not trying to ignite a flame war, but it seems like you've been bringing down an awfully big hammer of judgment on Nintendo as of late. I'm actually quite interested in hearing exactly WHY you are rooted in your hatred for the newer games. I know you've stated your position a few times, but I can't help but feel that you're just a tad bit cynical in your approach to their newer material.

Like I said:

If they make an RTS that uses more than one Wii-U controller, I will buy it. And love it. And possibly have intercourse with it.

I kind of agree, in the way that I don't feel there's enough emphasis on games. Yes it's amazing, it does lots of extra cool things, wow. But really, how often are we to expect a triple A title that isn't a Mario/Zelda rehash? I know people want nintendo's existing intellectual property but what about new ideas for games? Not new game ideas with the new hardware, but new game ideas.

If the guy was asked about new games and disregarded the question to talk about it's gimmicks then that's hardly a surprise. It's either a bad press confrence, or a sign that they're focusing on gimmicks. Or both.

I buy games consoles to play games. And if it was the amazing media device everyone is making out, why the fuck won't it play my movies? Not even a DVD that my PS2 did 2 generations ago. Fucking machine is ass backwards...

No they didn't, and no he didn't.

Full interview.

Reads like a whole lot of "So what can the Wii U Pad do then?" to me.

And even when they DID ask about games, Miyamoto answered.

I only have the E3 show to go by but it looked to me that the main focus was on games, especially with the amount of 3rd party titles they 'announced' anything else just helps it compete with the 360/PS3 even more.

as Jeff Gerstmann said, that immediately becomes worthless as soon as the PS4/New Xbox is announced, third parties will want to work on those as well as gamers wanting those because presumably, their graphics will be considerably better, and the Wii U will just be in the same position as the Wii all over again.

There were no questions on specific games, just things like, So can I take the pad in a different room and play just using the pad, and Miyamoto would respond with something like, It's not really meant for that, but check it out, you can browse the internet.

So one, he didn't answer the question, and 2, he went back to talking about the non gaming functions of the device. He did this with multiple questions.

To answer whoever's question it was, my hate for Nintendo stems from how much I used to love them. From NES to Gamecube it was nothing but quality systems with quality games. With the Wii, all they seemed to care about was how much hardware they could get me to buy, and I'm not gonna lie, they got me to buy a lot of it. But even years after the systems release, rather than try to bring out innovative games they slap me with more hardware and ooh, different colored hardware.

Here's my beef and why I agree with fanboy. My problem with Ninty is just like who the fuck cares about a web browser? There's no need to waste an interview asking questions about it. If there's a browser on Wii U - great. Do I wanna know how to browse the web? No. I've been doing that for the past 10 years Nintendo, I don't wanna know your cool plans of how I can do it on the controller or anything. I wanna know about games and other features not something as meh as a browser, it's there, cool, move along.

So because the writer didn't ask questions about specific games, Nintendo is no longer focused on making games. Okay, I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've been watching DVDs for 10 years, but you seem to think that's a huge-ass deal of a feature...
