Blu-ray is cheap nowadays. Not surprised. I am also not surprised if this console costs $300

Awesome, you mean it only took them this long to give us technology (LOL@flash drives) that we've been using on PS3 and 360 since launch? If you have to excited about that, then it just shows you how far Nintendo is still behind.

I'm not sure how getting to use the blu-ray tech works, but does this mean that they're paying sony a bit of money for this?

Bro, Blu-Ray isn't Sony's product as such. Blu-disk technology is owned by the Blu-ray Disc Association. Sony are a member but so are Apple, and Samsung.

no, I know that. The Blu-ray Disc Association is made up of like 20 major companies, plus others contributors I think. Most of the major electronics companies are in there, like Dell, Sharp, Panasonic, Phillips and whatnot as well. I seem to recall Toshiba being pretty much the only glaring omission.

I was really just trying to answer as simply as possible. In essence, Sony would receive a royalty for nintendo licensing the media. Just not solely Sony.

Yeah, anyone wanting to use BR tech pays a royalty to the BRDA, of which Sony is indeed a member of, and will see part of those proceeds.

So in effect, Nintendo will be paying Sony to use BR, but they'll be paying it to a whole load of other companies via the BRDA.

Not at all, just wondered what you were gettin at.

Blokey that explanation is indeed fact but fuck it's not really a clear representation of what will be happening. Sony won't see much money. Blu-ray Disc Association is more of a regulation thing. Money to Sony will be minimum.

It's like saying a Mars Bar has nuts in it. It doesn't really but the packaging says it probably does.
