Oh shi-
Why has it taken THIS long to make games that look like this? :O

lul he never said it looked shoddy.

He said it looks as good as an xbla game in terms of graphics.

It's the guy from Team Ninja. He's the one responsible for Ninja Gaiden.

I wanna suck him dry!

The in-game graphics are amazing.

However, I cringe just a little during almost every cutscene. The graphics look fine, but the art direction just isn't my style. I'm sure it's because it's Team Ninja and they have quite a different take than Retro -- being a Japan based studio -- but everything just looks kind of plastic-y and too rounded. I guess I'm spoiled though because Retro are masters of art direction and textures.

That's way too much pessimism in a post about Other M, from me though. You guys all know that I'm absolutely psyched for the game. Ignoring art direction/textures/graphics and the lot, I'm hoping this game delivers in terms of gameplay and story. And I think it will.

I was under the impression that Team Ninja had nothing to do with this, that it was only Tomonobu Itagaki...

just checked this out, it's not Tomonobu Itagaki at all, it's the rest of Team Ninja.

Not sure how this would pan out. Team Ninja have done some amazing animation in the past so they *might* tweak it something, pray they do.

You're right, they have a distinct style, but I like seeing that from dev to dev. My only problem with Ninja Gaiden was the size of Rachel's chest and lips. I love boobs but that I couldn't take seriously.

What's so special about it? Probably better looking than most Wii games but it still looks pretty crappy. As a sidenote, I'm beginning to think 360 games look dated.

Lets face it, the 360 has been out for ages now, and with it being so easy to program for, its been pushed to its limits pretty early on. I think this is one reason that the PS3 will eventually go on to take this generations crown, but not for a long time.

That said, the Wii can push out some awesome graphics if the devs just bothered to put the effort into it. Super Mario Galaxy? Metroid Prime Corruption? Both graphically great games.

Meh. The PS3 looks like the 360 and they both haven't improved lately. They're both dated.

My opinion on graphics? Stop caring right now. Like, right fucking now. We're at a point where you can only make graphics so good now. We're pretty close to blurring that margin between thinking a picture in a game was taken in real life, so why should we care so much. It's going to become standard soon enough, and hopefully Nintendo jumps to the HD bandwagon next gen and improves their hardware. From what I've heard, the 3DS is a technical powerhouse.

Also, Other M looks great. I'm really tempted to give it a buy, but I don't want to spend any money anytime soon :S
Unless I got a job... that would make things easier.

From what I've seen it's roughly on par with the PSP. Hardly a powerhouse. Not that I'm complaining about it, I'm buying it on day one.

Yeah, but you're forgetting that to gain the 3D effect it's rendering everything twice.
So to look that neat while rendering it all twice to get that 3D effect, it's doing a lot of work there.
Granted, I shouldn't have used the word powerhouse, because that may be overshooting it, but the Metal Gear 3DS tech demo did look fucking nice.

You know what I want?

I know this is way... out there, but I want technology that focuses where my eyes focus. Blur the other parts of the screen obviously, because that's how eyesight works. It's not a hugely significant blur, but it's there. I hate it when I'm playing a game and everything is so overwhelmingly crisp that it hurts to look at. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but hopefully there will come a day when this is possible. I like contrast and to be able to define what exactly I'm looking at. Not all this muddied crispness (that's an oxymoron).

Sorry for the tangent, but while we're talking about graphics, I figured it might be applicable.

Theres been a few games where that has happened, the first of which (and the only one I can recall easily) was Final Fantasy 8.

Now, I know I keep saying it doesn't exist on account of the story being utter shit, but if the characters were in the background, the background was crisp and the foreground blurry. Then when they came forward, the focus shifted and the background would blur and the foreground become crisp. It was a bloody neat effect back then, and is still used today, although not as much.

tbh, I haven't thought about that. But you're right, of course.
