Its nothing to do with nostalgia I promise you. Its the simple fact that, as you yourself said, they just aren't as good as they used to be.

But what if those are just the 'greats' so to speak. Yeah those games all outdo anything of the same franchise on Wii, but did we expect them to? I can't imagine a Metroid game surpassing Super Metroid. It just doesn't seem conceivable. Does that mean I hate every other entry in the Metroid franchise though? No, I still enjoy the Primes and the original very much. Just because a game didn't surpass a classic doesn't mean it's not of quality.
