Yes except it's in beta and is already way more complete than Terraria could ever hope to be. It's got way more life and fun in it, and has so many more ambitious features planned out and nearly ready to deploy, and has way more scope than Terraria could even hope to have.

Difficulty increases with world. Don't want the difficult to increase? stay out of sectors with worlds with a threat level higher than you're comfortable with.
Mobs DO leave you alone. I've gotten them to leave me be. they have a maximum range from you they can get before they go "oh fuck this" and wander away. it's easy enough to do. drops some blocks behind you or something to block their path, then run.
