Now that's out of the way....

Yes, it's time my PC got replaced, and courtesy of a 1-day sale, my account is now significantly lighter.

So what'd I get?

210-34887 XPS 8300 : Intel Core i7-2600 Processor(3.40GHz,8MB) 1 491.46 491.46 S
370-19949 Memory : 8192MB (4x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel 1 S
400-22142 Hard Drive : 1TB Serial ATA (7200RPM) 1 S
429-15618 Optical Drive : 16X DVD+/-RW Drive including Roxio software 1 S
480-10940 Display : Not Included 1 S
490-13221 Graphics : 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 545

The observant among you may notice part codes. Those really observant will see Dell part codes.

So, the PC guy bought a Dell? The fuck is going on?

Well, I didn't want to. But when I spent 2 hours of work yesterday trying to spec the same thing, and came up anywhere between £200-£300 over what Dell wanted? Fuck the principle, I'll be getting the Dell.

The weight? Well, pre-discounts... £1,100 ex-vat. After?

Code:
Subtotal 491.46
Freight 16.66
VAT £ 101.62
Total 609.74

Yeah, £1,100 down to £491.46. Fuck principles, that's fucking CHEAP.

Wow. That really is cheap. Was it on sale or something?

Just ever so slightly.
The XPS 8300 is currently on £350 off anyway, and a 1 day sale took another £300 off. That, and RBS' EPP discount then lopped another £20 or so off (basically made it free shipping).

I've gone on record saying I like Dell's computers. They are great value.

I do as well, they've basically done what any large distribution has, but the ability to customise the internals is a massive boon, and was done by Dell significantly before just about all of the massive companies. Hell, some still don't offer anything other than their off the shelf models.

Yeah, I've got a 2 week wait for my system, but it's the holiday period, and it's not exactly off the shelf, but it'll be worth the wait, considering this PC has been fine playing everything for nearly 2 1/2 years.
