I have, for the most part, simply accepted that my computer is probably seriously considering moving into Fuckville. I assume it's a mobo problem, but I think I might want to start fresh and replace (most?) everything. A whole new computer. Maybe. Maybe I'm just temporarily ragequitting cause I'm exhausted and growing tired of having to open up my case and fiddle with connections and tiny, tiny chips every few days.

Point is, you guys know considerably more about computers and how various parts perform than me, so if someone can drop me a list of parts for a cheap-as-possible-while-still-functional build, I'd appreciate it.
I don't play any super-intensive games, most common ones are TF2, L4D, Borderlands, and New Vegas, so it will need to at least be able to handle those with a nice framerate.
I don't have a set-in-stone budget, I just need it to be cheap. I mean, don't skimp on important components, I don't want my PSU to explode three weeks in because it was assembled by trained lemurs to cut down on costs, I need it to work well, I just also need to uh, be able to afford it. Yeah I'm kinda blathering at this point.

tl;dr I need a budget build cause my computer no longer knows what the fuck, links pls, tia.

Gotcha covered:

http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-620/fs

Click the middle one, change nothing.

$549

1 year warranty to boot.

Summary:
- Intel® Core™ i5-2320 processor(6MB Cache, 3.0GHz) ** SANDY BRIDGE
- 6GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz- 2 DIMMs
- 1TB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cacheâ„¢
- AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3
- Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English

Even has a wirless card built in for easy networking... might not matter to you, but it's nice to have.

EDIT: I know it's not a part list, but I think for many people getting a pre-built computer is better than building. You'd be the only person who could really gauge that here obviously. Not to mention companies like Dell thoroughly test their hardware together, so you aren't really getting any surprises.

EDIT 2: Out of curiousity, I looked up average prices on sites like newegg and tigerdirect for the parts above. Just the 5 items I listed in the summary will run you about $480. That doesn't take into account the wireless card, the mobo, the case, any drives, media card readers, and power supply which definitely makes up more than the $70 difference. The system above is definitely good value if you're interested in it.

Well we'd need to know your budget first, dude.

Whilst Intel are the dogs balls, AMD aren't far behind but the price difference is very good, so on a budget you're likely best with AMD board and ATI GFX card (which are the dogs balls and better optimised with amd CPUs.

PSU is a PSU. They're not that much just don't scripm out on it or else it'll be a shit one.

here in the UK you can get barebone sets which is RAM, CPU,. Mobo, all which work wel with ech other, you might wanna chck it out.

here in the UK you'd likely be looking at £300.00 for a decent PC withou monitor and whatnot. Thats if you don't get from your local fucking supermarket ( no offence Blokey, yo did get a wicked lappy for what you payed)

I legitimately don't know my budget. I'm kinda planning on asking for it for Christmas, though I may have to hold off till I get a job, which would change my budgets radically, but I don't know what they would be in either case. Probably $500-ish max if I get it for Christmas, $700-ish max if I wait, give or take. Cheaper is better obviously but those are probably the limits.
I know I need an AMD/ATI build, I mean, I do know some basics about computer building, I just don't know which parts specifically are the best bang for the buck, and I know a few people around here(you, fanboy, Noobnose I think) do some PC building and so you have experience in which parts are quality, so I was askin' for some advice.

If you go the route of a build, do you have any usuable parts from your desktop?

You could easily reuse the case, probably disk drives. Anything else you know is good?

Almost definitely reusable parts are the disk drive, hard drive, and RAM.
Might reuse the case too, not 100% on it though.

Okay, since I have no idea how old your machine is I have to ask. Are you using a SATA hard drive? Any idea how much ram, what type, what frequency?

These are a good Mobo + CPU option IMO:

CPU - $129.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103727

MOBO - $149.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128514

There are definitely cheaper motherboards, one I saw with less PCI express 2.0 slots same brand, but mostly the same otherwise for $105. But for, one thing I never skimp on is the motherboard.

Pretty sure I just have an ATA hard drive, 4 gigs of RAM, I think it's DDR3, 1333. Not positive though.

Seem the AMD FX 8-core processors dropped today. The 6100 6-core in canada is being bundled with the same mobo I posted earlier for just $300.

See as how that board is $149.99US, and the processor here is listed for $200, that seems like a solid deal.

They are also selling 16gb of DDR3 1600MHz Corsair for $99.99

damn.

Realistically, we've narrowed your problem down to the mobo or psu, so you could get an entirely new pc, or....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817341022

and if you need a vid card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102922
