I don't use Realtek D:
I used something called Conexant HD Smartaudio, or something or other. I've tried getting it back twice, but it just told me there was no device it could use.

Also, I just poked around in BIOS, and with little to no options I decided to waltz into the Boot Order.
No speakers, or anything in relation to audio, were there. WELP. Seems like this thing isn't making noise anytime soon ;3;

Though an interesting tidbit of information, the CD/DVD ROM drive is still in the boot order. Wonder why that is... Not like it's worth looking into at this point though, I can't listen to the CD's I've got if I were to toss em in


EDIT -- Oh lord what... I was stopping by my place for a brief moment before heading to a friend's house, and my laptop had been closed and in sleep mode. As I'm grabbing a few gamecube controllers, I hear the Vista startup theme... Confused, and happy, I pop open the laptop. Expecting the second screen to turn on (the main laptop screen is borked), I just shift my head over to the left... Nothing popped up... Instead, the laptop screen turned on... Sound and video. Out of fucking nowhere. It stayed that way till I got home... HOWEVER, a popup has greeted me... 'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown'... The cause? Bluescreen. Dunno when it happened, but that makes me uneasy...

Wat.

EDIT 2 -- Trying to run anything that's got sound on Firefox crashes the flash player, and Skype isn't responding when I go to make a call or send a message.. iTunes is also dying when I go to play a song.

I only ask because the IDT drivers (for audio) are complete shit. The drivers on my laptop give up when I resume from sleep and split the headphone and speaker audio, when it's supposed to control both just turn off one or the other depending on actual headphone connection.

Sounds like more is going on in this case though.

Since this happened, I've been using my older laptop to speak on Skype and whatnot.... Though I've gotta use my newer (no sound) laptop to play some delicious 1.8 Minecraft

With the way things are going, I'm just gonna wait till the holiday season and try to find a sweet deal on newegg for a desktop or something... Provided I have money for a computer by then.

IDT drivers are shit, I have the same problem as the other guy (too lazy to look who it was) who's sound went out everytime he puts his computer to sleep.

Time for the weird ass shit-o-the-day.

After being up for around an hour, I figured that I wanted to play a bit of minecraft.

Popped open soundless laptop, and nabbed my ipod and whatnot for some music.

As the computer boots up -- Vista startup theme. Wut? Not again.

After logging on, the computer starts to install drivers.. wat... It installed a driver with a completely fucked up name, but it had DVD in it, so I rushed over to 'My Computer' to check that out. I saw the CD drive for a split second, but it disappeared. Less than impressed, I went to Youtube to check the sound, seeing as the audio devices menu wasn't crashing and burning.

Randomly clicked a video, and I was greeted with Hank Hill's 'bwwuaaahhh'. Glorious.

I doubt this'll last more than a day, so I'm enjoying this while I can.


EDIT - There it goes. Out. Skype crashed, and so did the sound :I

...im with Nubnos on this. Take all the stuff off you want onto an ext drive and reinstall the whole caboodle, nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure

I'm not so sure it's driver related if I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers on multiple occasions... But I wouldn't really know that until we tear this thing apart and set it on fire check all the connections.
