I decided I wanted to play FFVII again (Crisis Core reminded me just how good FFVII was) so I reinstalled it on my PC. After about half an hour of playing around with settings and downloading patches and fixes I've managed to get it to work with Vista.

Guess my social life is about to suffer again... :(

Fantastic game, but still overrated.

Also, too easy on a PC because of all the .exe's that you can use to get all materia, weapons, etc.

If you want a challenge, try playing the game with ONLY weapons, armour, accessories and limit breaks. NO MATERIA. As soon as you pick up a materia, throw it away immediately.

I did it, and I'm more the man for it. :)

well that's no fun, you should at least keep the summons if for nothing else how cool they look.

also, sure you can beat the game with no materia, but no way you can complete the game without it.

My brother plays that game now because World of Warcraft was changing into crap.

It's not like you're FORCED to cheat. The only things I've downloaded are patches to make it work (and one which makes the characters look a little less blocky - oh, and another which increases the resolution).

As for no materia, I assume you didn't take on the Weapons in that playthrough?

Funnily enough, you have more chance of surviving Emerald with no materia!

Emerald has an attack called AIRE TAM which is "materia" backwards. This does 1111 damage for every single materia a character has equipped.

As for Ruby, KOTR and MIME are all you need, but yeah, fuck taking it on without them. :D

Emerald was really easy. Beat him without the underwater breathing thing

only real thing you need is final attack linked with phoenix, and of course KOR with Mime

Final attack-Phoenix was always a useful combination...

I've changed my mind about playing FFVII again - I'm determined to beat Crisis Core before I start a new game.

Apparently the end of Crisis Core says 'Continued in FFVII'. Seems odd that the prequel and sequel are readily available to anybody who wants to play/watch them and yet FFVII itself is becoming increasingly difficult to get hold of legally. I know there have been rumours about a remake forever now but, to my mind, this would be the perfect time for them to do it. Advent Children and Crisis Core have introduced FFVII to a new, younger audience. I've got friends who love both and yet have never played FFVII; were they to announce and release a remake they'd sell not only to the original players but also to this new audience.

A remake of FFVII would be death to the game.

Because with remakes, there are changes to the story, additional enemies, additional dungeons, additional quests.... something that FFVII does not need. Because you just know that the number one request would be to resurrect Aeris, and Square would cave in and just TOTALLY RUIN IT.

The story is fine as it is, the game is fine as it is, and if ANYTHING, it needs putting up on the PSN store for download.

A remake wouldn't necessarily ruin the game, it depends how they did it. Couldn't resurrect Aeris anyway - in Advent Children she's dead, remember. ;)

Yes, they'd probably add new quests and enemies, new weapons and the like but that wouldn't necessarily ruin it. As long as they kept the story as it is and only added sidequests I wouldn't have a problem with it. Although, I do agree, if they changed the main story I would be very upset.
