I thought some of the other Halo games were a little underwhelming, but there's something about this one that's catching my interest. I'll still wait for some of the reviews or something. I guess.
Maybe I'll buy it next year.

I made the last minute decision to preorder before midnight launch. It's a good thing I did too, because my local gamestop was already sold out of their 140 copies D: Only a 20 minute drive to the next one though.

So 4 is a tremendous change in atmosphere and tone from the previous games. It feels more serious and less epic, in that 'oh my god we're going to fucking die' sort of way.

Pic related is my new bane of existence, these fuckers are overwhelming. They fucking climb walls and spam automatic weapon fire at you. Just one of them is easy to kill, but they're highly aggressive (they fucking chase you down), and the game likes to spawn 10 of them every time you turn a corner.

I really can't recommend playing 1 unless you really want to know the story. It was a generation-defining game when it came out, but it's pretty bad by today's standards. I also hope they remake 2, I enjoyed it a lot.

Honestly having replayed Halo 1 on PC before playing Halo 4, twice over, I can still say that even as a dated FPS, its gameplay still holds up really well, as does its story. I don't see how that despite it being old you shouldn't play it. I even decided to play Halo 2 on Xbox again (well 360 , because fuck the classic Xbox controllers, seriously), and enjoyed that quite a bit. Didn't have Halo 3 so couldn't play that again unfortunately, but having played Halo 4 to completion now with a friend on Coop, magfuckingnificent.
The story is amazing, the soundtrack is perfect for the tone of the game, so many feels all over the place, despite a 'press X to win' moment (I fucking hate those, so so much) near the end, I still thoroughly enjoyed the end confrontation and the particular moment in question I really didn't mind this time around. It was nicely handled.

Halo CE: Anniversary is definitely worth playing. It's probably around $20 right now anyway, and 343 handled the upgrade really well, you can even switch between classic and remastered graphics in real time to see what the changes are like.

I honestly didn't really like Halo 2. Thought at best it was a step to the side for the series rather than forward, still worth playing for story though.

Halo 3 was better than 2, and is worth a play.

Halo 3: ODST being a sidestory isn't that important, but it's probably my second favorite campaign in the series.

Halo: Reach was fucking awesome.

Halo 4... I'm too poor to pick it up yet, but I'm confident that 343 did an amazing job taking over from Bungie (Bungie even said they were happy with what 343 did).

Since Halo Anniversary through Halo 3:ODST are all pretty cheap, I'd say it's worth it to go through them. It's cool to see how the gameplay evolved too. I know that sounds goofy since it's just a sci-fi FPS, but going from Halo: Reach back to Halo 1 it is jarring how much the speed and mechanics of things have changed.

Got it.

First match: 14 kills, 10 assists, 7 deaths.

Not bad at all, since I'd never seen the map. Also, I had 4 more assists and 5 less deaths than anyone else in the match.

Pretty much par for the course in terms of how I play. I tend to get a bunch of assists, but usually my K/D is worse than that.

I really like what I've seen so far.

My overall kdr is negative at the moment. I'll turn that around when they roll out the competitive ranks and the SWAT playlist makes a return.

I don't like SWAT, if I wanted to go for constant headshots I'd play Rainbow Six.

SWAT will be coming next week though, so there ya go!

Got to rank 20. Calling it a night. I'm a little upset they don't have Invasion. That was one of my favorite gametypes in Reach.

Well Ive played enough multiplayer now to say that 343 butchered what Halo was known for. They've turned it into CoD. There is no fairness or balance, only campers and douchebags playing with bad connections.

343 says they plan on releasing competitive skill ranks and competitive playlists...next YEAR. No word on if they're removing all of the powerups and free weapons for kill streaks. Fucking retards.

I didn't think I was paying $60 for a bad game, but I was wrong. Consider me rustled.

Fixed, and done.

I just listened to the Game Informer podcast about Halo 4 earlier today, and they described the multiplayer overhaul as being all about being able to customize loadouts, not that noobs get pistols and experienced players get rocket launchers. Basically, that everyone was still on a level playing field. I gather that's not what you took away from your experience?

Very far from it.

HaloWaypoint.com wrote:
Specializations are unlocked after Reaching Spartan Rank 50 in Halo 4. Upon unlocking specializations, the player must choose one to advance through before they can select another. Each specialization consist of rank paths which are composed of 10 levels each. Armor sets, emblems, visor colors, weapon and armor skins, and armor mods are unlocked along those paths. You must advance 10 ranks in one Specialization before choosing to level up another.

Engineer - Unlocks Drop Recon, which shows you ordnance respawns ahead of time
Operator - Unlocks Wheelman, which makes vehicles more durable and resistant to damage and EMPs
Pathfinder - Unlocks Gunner, which increases time of turret fire before overheat and increases movement speed with detached turret
Pioneer - Unlocks Fast Track, which allows player to rank up faster
Rogue - Unlocks stability, which lessens flinch when being shot in scope
Stalker - Unlocks Nemesis, which shows you location of enemy for 5 seconds after respawn
Tracker - Unlocks Requisition, which allows you to recylce ordnance and request new drops
Wetwork - increased speed, faster assasinations, quieter sprint, shown as outline under promethean vision.

So once you hit SR50, you unlock abilities that everyone with a lower rank than you doesn't have. Instant advantage.

HaloWaypoint.com wrote:
Armor Abilities

-Hard Light Shield: Allows users to a protective barrier of hard light which stops most small arms fire, melees, and some explosives.

-Regeneration Field: Allows the user to release a short-range energy field that heals any nearby spartans. Needs to be charged up; It pushes enemies away initially like AL EMP.

-Jet Pack: Allows users limited flight through a vertical lift propulsion system similar to that of EVA re-entry packs. Less hover time and acceleration.

-Thruster Pack: Enables a powerful burst of movement allowing the ability to evade or quickly close the gap. 3rd Person Evade perfored in mid-air.

-Hologram: Allows users to generate an almost identical holographic decoy to to deceive enemies during combat. Shows up on radar and red with reticle.

-Active Camo: Allows users to generate a visual effect astonishingly close to invisibility. Camo dots blue instead of red for you and move more realistically.

-Auto-Sentry: An automatic turret which can be deployed to defend its user or command a key battlefield choke-point. Can look 180 degrees and is stationary.

-Promethean Vision: Allows users to predict enemy signatures through walls and other hard surfaces. Faster wave and longer cooldown time.

After an hour or two of playing, you'll have most of these unlocked. Some of these are counter-effective to each other.
Active camo will allow you to be completely undetectable if you're crouched (even if you're looking directly at them), and you get to use it whenever you want. It even nullifies Promethean Vision.
There is no way to tell if a person is a Hologram or not. They have shields, and you even get the rumble effect in the controller when you melee them. So you think a player is running, but you're just being baited.
Hard Light Shield is fucking obnoxious and deflects bullets, basically a CoD riot shield that you can raise whenever you want.
Thruster Pack lets people with bad connections get instant kills. About 50% of the time that I've died in the Flood (Infection) gametype is from players flying at Mach 8 and zipping past you. You just drop. The kill cam shows them swing at you from 10 feet away, but you still die.

HaloWaypoint.com wrote:
Tactical Packages (some unlockable through specializations after level 50)

-Shielding: Speeds up your armors recharge rate.
-Mobility: Allows unlimited sprint.
-Resupply: Allows the recovery of grenades from fallen allies or foes.
-Ordnance Priority: Offers more frequent ordnance drops.
-AA Efficiency: Increases the rate at which energy recharges for armor abilities
-Grenadier: Increases grenade carrying capacity.
-Firepower: Allows the use of a primary weapon in the secondary weapon slot. Without this you can only equip PP, Mag, or Boltshot secondary
-Fast-track: Allows the user to advance quicker in rank. Unlocked with Pioneer after 50.
-Requisition: In modes with personal ordnance, requisition lets the player request new choices when an ordnance is granted. Unlocked with Tracker after 50
-Wheelman: Increases the long term durability of your vehicle as well as how it reacts to EMP charges. Unlocked with Operator after 50.

Support Upgrades (some unlockable through specializations after level 50)

-Stability: Steadies your weapon while being struck by incoming fire (less flinch). Unlocked with Rogue after 50.
-Ammo: Increases ammunition capacity for both starting weapons and ordnance drops.
-Dexterity: Speeds up reload and weapon swapping.
-Sensor: Increases motion sensor range.
-Awareness: Allows the use of motion sensors while using a scope.
-Nemesis: Location of enemy who killed you marked by waypoint for 5 seconds when you respawn. Unlocked with Stalker after 50.
-Explosives: Alters grenade performance, increasing blast radius and decreasing grenade damage received.
-Drop Recon: In modes with personal ordnance, offers more frequent ordnance drops to the user. Unlocked with Engineer after 50.
-Gunner: Increases how long a mounted weapon can fire before overheating as well as movement speed with detached turrets. Unlocked with Pathfinder after 50.

These are things I would expect in a single player game, not a PvP game.

My melons remain rustled.
