...is being remade for the 360, and not by Bungie.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/04/halo- ... volved-hd/

Quote:
Halo: Combat Evolved will indeed launch this holiday season for Xbox 360 with a full visual overhaul. Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets. While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations.

Oh I so need to head on over to /v/ right now, considering this morning I saw at least 4 threads about Sony being "greedy Jews" for re-releasing old PS2 games in shiny PS3 HD.

Not that this is a bad thing, cos I loved the original Halo (except the final Warthog dash which was rage inducing), but the hypocrisy over there will be off the charts. :D

One fucking generation between hardware, why bother?

Oh wait, for the money.

Considering most people who play Halo weren't even born when the first one was released (oh yes, I went there), I'd say its both clever marketing and greed in one.

I actually liked the first one. Second was very meh. Third one was just a visual masturbation of colour and bloom. Not touched a Halo game since, although if H:CEHD is an XBLA title rather than a full-price release, I might pick it up for old times sake.

Whilst you're right about the fanbase not being born, imagine if they remade the exact same film so frequently (Avoid all the remarks about the films that HAVE done).

It's just greed and stupidity at it's finest, greed of the makers, stupidity of the fanbase.

I see this re-release - like the Goldeneye re-release, despite how poor it was - as 60% greed, 40% letting newbies experience the whole series, as those games are OLD AS HELL.

Shit like re-releasing God Of War 1 and 2 (both of which are VERY recent games) is 90% greed, as PS2 consoles still sell by the fuckton, as do the games themselves.

That said, I still bought the GOW Collection, but only cos I wanted the full set on PS3...

Goldeneye is a more deserved game, it was actually a revolution for console FPS's, and it's now two gens older.

As for the GoW games, couldn't agree more, beside GoW 3 is exactly the same game anyway.

When you consider that fewer games in any genre have a more copied control layout (so much so that some games go as far as calling that set-up "Master Chief"), it set the minimum for what a quality console FPS should be, and it's one of maybe 2 series to ever do vehicles in an FPS properly, the series as a whole deserves the critical praise it gets (fangasm bullshit aside).

I can dig it that you hate it's popular though.

This would almost be worth be buying another 360 for, since Halo:CE is the only one in the series I actually gave a damn about.

I say almost. I'm quite meh about HD rereleases of last gen games (God of War and Ico/SOTC notwithstanding). I can see how PS1 and Nintendo Sixty FOOOOOOUUUUUURRRRRR games would be old enough to warrant it, but it just seems that last gen is too recent. Most of these games still look great even in standard definition!

I just decided to start playing these (Wars not included) last Fall, I think. Mixing in some other games, I've made it to ODST, which I'm playing now.

I remember asking Sebs why he and others loved it so much, because it was just a well made FPS (Nintendo blinders were still on). A well made FPS is worth playing, and a remake, while possibly being a bit soon, will be nice compared to the jaggy version I played 6 months ago.

Well this seems redundant, considering the original game is already downloadable on xbox live. The graphics still hold up, as do the controls.

Did anyone else find the levels got more and more repetitive as the game went on? It's like you're just walking over and over again through the same set of rooms and tunnels. I never played the game until last year, but even for a game from 2001 the levels were pretty unimpressive. At least in the last half of the game.

Definitely, there was a large amount of repetition to make levels longer.

Too right, put me right off that fucking game. That's one reason why I hate it so goddamned much. Just so fucking boring. And it never feels like your gun is anything more than a toy. And the controls for the vehicles are fucking finnicky (wanna look back while driving forward? No can do sir).

Well anyway yeah, repetitive.

Happy about this. I like the original Halo a lot, and if they update some of the level design and retroactively flesh things out/add the arbiters side it could be amazing.
