Not familiar with xbox live and was wondering if someone could give me a quick walkthrough on setting up parental controls to disable voice chat both incoming and outgoing

Well it's not really a parental control :hmm:

Press the center button of the controller > settings > preferences > Voice

I don't think you could really block outbound voice unless you just removed the headset.

IIRC, the parental control menu is under the system settings. If you go to the My XBOX menu and scroll all the way to the right, you should get console settings, where you can change language, network, memory and a bunch of other shit. I think it's somewhere in there.

If not, you may want to sign into the account you're adding the controls to, and go to the section that shows your avatar and recently played games. I think you can disable voice and messages from there.

Edit:

Sign in with the gamertag you want to add controls to. Go to "My XBOX" on the dashboard. Go one blade to the right of where it tells you what's in the disc drive. This should show the gamertag/avatar/gamerscore. Press A.

Go two blades to the right and it's an "Online Safety" tab. You can go with a preset (Adult, Teen, Child) or go with your own custom settings.

There is also a way to limit how much time a gamertag can play in a 24 hour period. Whether or not they can play online. Whether or not they can see photos. Etc. There's a ton of Parental Controls stuff available, I just have never had to use it, so I can't be of much more help. The above way is limiting a specific gamertag, but I think you can do it from system settings to make it all across the board.
