Is the Xbox 720 about to be announced?

Microsoft have recently advertised for jobs that could indicate work is beginning on the successor to the Xbox 360.

The ad reads:

Quote:

"Come join a dynamic engineering team and play a key role in the development and verification of the Xbox and future platforms."

The three positions available are for a "hardware verification engineer", a "VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) graphics architect" and one for a "VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) performance architect".

While not outwardly shouting from the rooftops that work is starting on Microsoft's next-gen console, it certainly does look like they're planning something...

Well obviously it's in development, to say its not would be ridiculous. They've probably been kicking ideas around since the 360 came out however many years ago.

WHYYYYYYY? It's not gonna be call that. There's no way MS will call it what. The only time a company have given successor the same name with a higher number (xbox doesn't count, it added a number) is the PS3 ("lol we're shit with names so we'll use the same but add a number").

I reckon it'll still be called an xbox, but have a proper sweet new name. Like "X-Box Hiroshima" (see smiler for the reference).

Anyway I'm not ready for a new gen I don't think...

I'd be okay with it being called the X3 (3rd gen xbox).

But I doubt it's going to be announced anytime soon..I'd say they'll work on it for a few years before any details are dropped.

I saw this posted on the official xbox mag website just now. Looks promising, but agree with previous posters in that I think we are gonna be okay to continue buying 360 games for a while yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw further details at E3, with a better idea of release date. I'm guessing 18 months at the minute, purely because these positions are talking about taking concepts through to implementation and as I work in IT I know this phase can take anything from 6 to 24 months in a big company to achieve.

Good news though I think. Wonder if Sony have started on anything?
