While unannounced to this point, there has been word that 360 would be getting 3D as well, like the PlayStation just did. I think it could come as soon as today, during their press conference, and it could be in a completely different, and more useful form to us, than what Sony has offered.

Okay, so let's be realtistic, 3DTV's are expensive as fuck, and very few people have them right now. Beyond that, they aren't the most comfortable, or good for your eyes, because of the glasses that are required to get the effect.

So, why not use head-tracking? The Natal camera makes this incredibly easy for developers on the 360, and the effect would work on ANY television.

At least until prices come down on the 3D sets and the glasses go away, which they ARE working towards already, this would be a great alternative. Maybe next gen, real 3D will be more worthwhile.

You're forgetting one major, major thing, one that will ensure head tracking is never used in videogames.

Turning away isn't a big deal really. Developers can handle that in a number of different ways.

I suppose head tracking could be used as a gimmick in some kinect game, but for the most part I don't see how it'd add anything except annoyance.. Most the time you're sitting right in front of the TV anyway, so no need to distort the image.

Head tracking wouldn't be a gimmick imo. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If they do just that for 3D on the Xbox, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Head tracking in Forza. Looks decent. Not sure about driving with my hands though (no manual throttle?).

I personally don't see how it'd work. You'd essentially be looking away from the telly.

Good idea though, if your TV followed you around...but you still wouldn't get a feeling of depth perception like in normal 3d.

I LIEK TURTLES idea though, Nintendo did this recently for the DS, only it was the DS that moved, not your head. Worked wonderfully.
