Gamespot had a sit down Q&A session with Sony's Shuhei Yoshida regarding the NGP and the following was said:

GS: So we're seeing today that there is the possibility of compatibility between the gaming experience on the NGP and the PS3. Is this a focus for the NGP?

SY: Absolutely yeah, thatâ€™s something we are very excited to be working on. For one thing, the core performance is very similar, much closer between PS3 and NGP compared to PSP and PS3. So some games can be made available for both PS3 and PSP. Like, we are showing, Wipeout today, how the online compatibility, when you play Wipeout online, your opponent might be coming from PS3 or NGP.

And thatâ€™s very exciting for us. And the other point too is, we can provide, through the PSN, because we expect most of the NGP users will have a PSN account, as compared to PSP. When we launched PSP, we didnâ€™t have PSN yet.

So the connectivity would not be limited by connecting cables between PSP and PS3, with USB. But we can create connectivities through PSN and we can do some cool stuff that we are not talking about as yet, but weâ€™ll be very happy to show pretty soon what you can do between PS3 and NGP

I see this as the first step for sony to share gaming experiences across the two platforms. Imagine, you buy Call of Duty Combo Edition. You get the NGP and PS3 versions. You're game saves are all stored in the cloud, allowing you to seamlessly switch between one platform or the other.

This is not a thread tooting my own horn, but simply suggesting that just maybe, based on those comments, the concept in my second quote is gonna be unveiled....

I've never used the remote play... how exactly does that work anyway? The concept seems to me like you'd have to access your PS3 through your router and stream the game to the device.... But, having a native app that just connects to the PSN seems much much better IMO.

Doubt it personally. I think Sony will recognize for this device to hit the ground running and grow developer support, $299-349 is the price point they need to stay in. Reasonably speaking, even that's rich for a handheld. Above that is suicide.

btw, just an FYI, heard a rumour that Sony stripped the 16gb of flash memory out to reduce cost. Not sure how true that is.

I cant remember the name of it, but they announced a Diablo clone of sorts. Anyways the important thing is you can pause and save your game on the NGP (now PSVita), then resume right where you left off on the PS3.

And there you have it. $249-$299 depending on whether 3G is your thang.

Awesome, in the E3 conference, that game Ruins, talked about exactly what I was talking about. Save on PS3, continue on Vita.

Well, you connect to the ps3 with the psp. either your personal network via router, OR over the internet via any wifi. Then you play games or watch movies from your ps3 on your psp. It was kool, but only a few games supported that. Playing over the internet is nice, but I used it mostly to watch full movies anime etc without having to have the files on my psp or ps3. I stream them via ps3 media player. So, all the files are on my media server, streamed to the ps3, then to the psp...pure movie watching win.

Now that the PSVita is more powerful, and they want to do the move the game thing to play on the go(transfarring thing also), I am sure remote play will have a lot more games that will be compatible. Well, I hope anyway.
