Metal Gear 3: Revolver Ocelot

Yeah, that's the title of the rumored new installment, set during the time gap between Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Metal Gear, you play as the infamous Villain [spoiler]And La-li-lu-le-lo[/spoiler] Revolver Ocelot. This'll finally close the gap between Big Boss creating FoxHound and Big Boss defecting from the US and creating Outer Heaven. Along with the births of the 3 Snakes and the La-li-lu-le-lo. All through Ocelot's eyes.

I stumbled across this rumor whilst reading Official Playstation Magazine no 21's Rumor section today and I couldn't help but do a little research.

Unfortunately Ryan Payton has claimed there's no truth behind this rumor, even though he earlier claimed that there was a portable ops sequel in the pipeline and it would be set in that time slot.

Regardless, i still thought it would be interesting to share the concept and see what you guys would think of a game like this.

Hot damn, that'd be awesome. Wonder how it would play....

Some rumored like Portable Ops, I wouldn't like that much.

But it would be completely possible to play it like the first MGS.

I've read a bit more into it, the rumors state you'd play all the way up to Big Boss's defeat at Zanzibar.

I would really love for Ryan Payton to be lying and actually making this game right now.

There's been all sorts of stories and back stories in the Metal Gear universe around Snake, Big Boss and Raiden etc. I think they should try something new.

Yeah yeah new stuff is always dodgy stuff. But I think with a new story, Konami would be pressured to push the boundaries once again like MGS, as this time around, with a different lead character, and different side characters/enemies, with a totally new, explosive new story, not relying on the previous games features to sell the game.

The only problem with that, is the title. "Metal Gear". It means there must be a Metal Gear of some type involved (as that would defeat the object of the game in it's entirety), and that's been done to death. A new name, new characters, odd links and references to Solid Snake etc, but the same sneaky gameplay that MGS and MGS2 had, and you have yourself a winner. Oh I also think the lead character should be female for a change, cause as tones as Solid Snakes arse looks on Sons of Liberty, it's still a guys ass.

Wow it could be called....Not Metal Gear - Tactical Espionage Action.

MGS3 didn't have a Metal Gear in it.

The Shagohod was a precursor to Metal Gear, essentially a mobile nuke launcher. Never referred to it as a Metal Gear though.

Metal gear has to be bipedal. Shagohod wasn't.

And RAXA was the predecessor of Metal Gear, as it's the step between Shagohod and the first MG.

Metal Gear Solid 2 doesn't feature a real Metal gear either. Ray is an Anti Metal Gear, it doesn;t fire nukes, it's created to stop Metal Gears. Arsenal Gear isn't a Metal Gear either.

4 does have Rex in it, but this time you pilot it.

Only MG, MG2 and MGS focused around you stopping any Metal Gear(s)

RAY was billed as an "anti-Metal Mear Metal Gear".

Also, Metal Gears are MOBILE nuke launchers, not BIPEDAL nuke launchers. That's the whole point of them.

Look, Dirty, foxy, whatever your name may be... If it's a big, feck off robot thing, that f*cks people up, and is in a "Metal Gear" game, then it's Metal Gear enough for me

Both Sigint and Granin (Granin DESIGNED metal gear along with Otacon's Grandfather) refer to the concept as a Bipedal nuclear launch platform. Wiki even refers to Metal Gear as Bipedal, so does the MGS4 database.

Hint how there's never, ever being a Metal Gear that has more than 2 legs (MG, MG-D, MG-Rex and even Ray and the GEKKOs on technicality).

Unless you';re gonna turn around and call the in game characters and Konami wrong guys, I'd just leave it.
